Win and defeat as Scotland U18 Men squad visit Newcastle

Scotland U18 lost out to Wales at Kingston Park, Newcastle yesterday, but there was a last-gasp win for a Scotland U18 Development side against Newcastle Falcons.

Two scores from Daniel Casserly, after one from Harvey Preston, weren’t enough for Scotland as Wales ran out 33-17 winners in the second fixture of the day.

Earlier, a Rory Baxter try and crucial Jake Dalziel conversion with the last play secured a 40-38 win for Scotland U18 Development against Newcastle Falcons. The score was Baxter’s second of the game, with three more coming from Finlay Anderson, Ashton Young and Max Garry.

The matches provided the first competitive action for the squad in the build up to the 2025 U18 Men’s Six Nations Festival.

Head Coach Ross Miller said: “We’re delighted to have seen more than 45 of our best young Scottish players in action yesterday, and for them to have been involved in two competitive games.

“Of course, there’s things to work on from both games, but we saw a lot of good things from both of our teams. It was a first taste of international rugby for a lot of players today, and they’ve seen the standard that is required at this level.

“We’ll keep working hard in our camps leading up to the Six Nations Festival and take our learnings from today as we continue to develop as a group.”
