Singapore Sevens Recap

2 Feb 2026

Great Britain’s men’s and women’s teams descended upon Singapore for the first HSBC SVNS event of 2026, with both teams finishing in eighth position.

After the Christmas and new year break, the World Sevens Series returned this past weekend, seeing both of Great Britains sevens squads take on tough opposition.

GB men’s were unable to match South Africa and Spain and a narrow defeat against Fiji earlier in the day showed a real competitive edge but the men ultimately took eighth place in the end.

The women’s squad also took on strong opposition, coming up against top of the table New Zealand as their first fixture of the weekend. GB women’s eventually finished in eighth after defeats to Fiji and Japan in the final two matches on Sunday.

Great Britain Sevens Director of Rugby, Ciaran Beattie said: “It was a difficult weekend for both teams. There were some players that really put their hands up over the course of the weekend, with a few new caps that have learned a lot.”

“There was promise in some of the performances and ultimately, we’re really looking to turn those performances into points come Perth next week. That’s the beauty of the game that we have five or six games to go and show that.”
