Hong Kong Review – GB Sevens

20 Apr 2026

Great Britain men’s and women's sides were in action over the weekend in the World Championship, both finishing in 10th spot.

The men experienced tough results over the weekend but did record a victory against USA in the historic Hong Kong tournament.

The women recorded their first victory of the season so far, defeating South Africa 19-14, responding well to a defeat against them earlier that day.

Great Britain now go to Valladolid and Bordeaux over the next few months for the final two World Championship events.

Ciaran Beattie said: “Both teams showed glimpses of good stuff throughout but ultimately they haven’t finished in the positions we’d want to be at such an iconic tournament as Hong Kong.

“It was great to see the women beat South Africa, responding well to a loss against them earlier in the day. That was their first win of the season and will give them a lot of confidence going into the last two world championship events.

“The men’s team had a number of injuries to a fair few of our most experienced players which took the wind out of our sails a little bit but offered opportunities to other players to step up and perform at such an iconic venue. They will all have learned great lessons.”
