Wells will represent Scotland Sevens as one of the core contracted players this season and was part of the Thistles squad that won the prestigious Melrose Sevens competition in May.
Speaking on pre-season and Melrose memories, he said: “Really looking forward and excited to play for Scotland Sevens again. We’ve had a great pre-season in the lead into Safari Sevens this weekend, including the build-up this week after arriving in Kenya, so we’re in a positive position for sure.
“The boys from Edinburgh Rugby’s and Glasgow Warriors Academies and the from clubs as well are a great group, and the core contracted boys have enjoyed working with them already. Overall, it’s a great environment to be in, and we’re excited to get stuck into some tournament play.
“Melrose was an awesome tournament for me to be involved in and an unforgettable experience, and being a part of the first Scotland Sevens team to win it since 2008 was a massive achievement for me.
“It’s great to also have a lot of the boys and squad that played in that tournament back in training with us and involved in the Sevens programme here.”

Play gets underway tomorrow, Friday 9 October, in Nairobi with Scotland facing Uganda Select at 5:34pm local time (3:34pm BST).
Pool play will continue to Saturday 10 October with two encounters. Firstly, Scotland take on Kenya Shujaa in the final game of the morning set of fixtures, kicking off at 12:26pm (10:26am BST).
SportPesa Fast Forward Sevens are the opponents for the final Pool A game, which kicks off at 3:50pm (1:50pm BST). The knock-out action will take place on Sunday 11 October, with seedings deciding placement and fixtures.
Wells couldn’t contain his excitement when talking about what it means to be involved this weekend but also explained what the preparations have looked like since arriving in Kenya, saying: “It’s been a great first couple of days in Kenya so far. We’ve had a couple of training sessions so far and a run-out against one of the other teams involved to get used to the altitude and prepare us for the competition ahead.
“We’re looking to go out, express ourselves and really do our best this weekend as a team and individually. I can speak for the boys here and say we’re all really excited to pull on the Scotland jersey, wear the thistle, and get stuck in in Kenya.”
