A special, and busy, day in the club rugby calendar, Silver Saturday brings teams and supporters from across the country make their way to Scottish Gas Murrayfield in pursuit of glory at the home of Scottish Rugby.

With no fewer than seven finals taking place across Silver Saturday, the season’s end provides an opportunity to experience a big match day in either the main bowl or at Hive Stadium.

As well as the Women’s Plate, the fixture list contains Shield and Bowl finals for both Men and Women, as well as two huge cup finals to draw a close to the domestic campaign.

The Women’s Plate sees Caithness Krakens meet Uddingston following impressive semi-final wins for either club, whilst in the Women’s Shield, West of Scotland are aiming to defend a title they won last year, with opponents Biggar in their way.

The Men’s Shield pits Cumnock against Moray; Irvine take on Blairgowrie in the Men’s Bowl; and in the Men’s National League Cup Final, Lasswade go head-to-head with Falkirk.

Two huge cup competitions bring the curtain down on Silver Saturday, with Watsonians and Hillhead/Jordanhill battling for the right to be crowned Sarah Beaney Cup winners, the former seeking consecutive victories in the competition.

And finally, in the Scottish Cup, Hawick are aiming for another domestic double having claimed a league and cup triumph last year. Opponents Edinburgh Academical are appearing in their first final since 2007.

Welcome to Scottish Gas Murrayfield and Hive Stadium for what once again promises to be a feast of fantastic rugby on show today at Silver Saturday 2024. 

Silver Saturday is one of the flagship days in our domestic game and as anyone who has been involved in previous years will attest, memories can be made to last a lifetime. It is an extremely busy occasion, with multiple matches taking place throughout the day, so if you do have time and want to take in a few games, I’m sure the players on show would really appreciate the support.  

 We are thrilled that BBC ALBA has come onboard to show the Sarah Beaney Cup in its broadcast this year, a sign of the continued growth of and appetite for the women’s game. If the Women’s National Bowl final, played before the Scotland-England Women’s Six Nations match, was anything to go by, we are all in for a treat of women’s rugby today. 

 It is a pleasure to be able to host Silver Saturday again, and to have so many people coming together to both represent and support the clubs that have battled so hard to get to their respective finals.  

 I would also like to take the chance to thank everyone associated with the Scottish Rugby Development team, as well as my colleagues in the Events team for their endeavours in planning and pulling together what I’m sure will be another wonderful Silver Saturday here at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. 

The Sarah Beaney Cup final has become a highlight of the women’s season, with the trophy contested for at Silver Saturday every season.

In 2006, the Cup was emblazoned with the name Sarah Beaney, in honour of the Murrayfield Wanderers and Scotland A back-row forward who tragically lost her life in 2005.

Sarah began playing rugby in 1993 during her first year at Moray House College in Edinburgh where she studied for four years. During her time there, she represented the Scottish Universities team and subsequently went on to captain Scotland Women’s A squad.

When Sarah wasn’t in the scrum, she was involved as a coach leading on touch and tag rugby, as well as school XV teams at McLaren High School in Callander, where she was a teacher.

Sarah sadly lost her life in a car crash on her way to school from her home in Stirling in 2005. The accident happened just a month short of her 29th birthday.

Her last match was for Murrayfield Wanderers on her home pitch in the Women’s Cup final on April 30 2005.

After her death, the Scottish women’s rugby community joined forces asking players and former players to take part in a match in memory of Sarah, in the hope it would become an annual fixture.

Now, her name and legacy lives on through the Sarah Beaney Cup.

Due to Silver Saturday being held over the course of a day, we are allowing bags that can fit under your seat. Please note that all bags will be searched upon entry.

What not to bring

Bringing these items into the grounds, for your use or for someone else’s could result in an ejection from the event.

Scottish Rugby has a zero-tolerance approach to smoke bombs and flares at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

Supporter information

Supporters are encouraged to be mindful of others while enjoying the matches at Silver Saturday. Scottish Rugby does not encourage nor tolerate ‘booing’ of the opposition at any point during the game and asks all fans to refrain from engaging in this activity.

The Scottish Rugby Store, situated in the lower south-west corner of the stadium, will be open from 9am-6pm.

Food and Drink
