Anne named BT Volunteer of the Month for Kilmarnock efforts
The first BT Volunteer of the Month award for season 2016/17 was awarded to Anne Clay of Kilmarnock for her continued hard work and dedication behind the scenes.Anne first became involved in the club as a parent, watching her son play for the Killie’s under-16 squad before she volunteered to help in the kitchen, providing post-match hospitality for all at the club. Eventually, Anne joined the committee and is currently making a huge difference to the running of the club through her role as Bar Convenor. She is also in charge of organising the hospitality for the Autumn Test match between Scotland and Georgia being held at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock on Saturday 26 November. On receiving her award, Anne said: I am really honoured, there are a lot of volunteers at the club who deserve this award, so I’m really surprised and it is really a group effort.Every Saturday, Anne runs a car boot sale, prepares hot food to raise money for club funds, looks after the club diary assisting with social functions and is also the main point of contact for all private bookings. The proceeds from the car boot sale go towards the club and its junior section and we have enjoyed huge success with a number of events in recent months, having developed our club changing rooms as a result. Making sure the club’s future players are in good hands, Anne also manages the under-18s squad, washing the strips, driving players to away games, and providing post-match teas and coffees for all of the home matches. She organised and catered for the club’s Royal Bank of Scotland RugbyForce event while also raising over£4,000 at a Fundraising Boxing Night hosted by the club. Anne is also a Glasgow Warriors fan and can often be found at Scotstoun supporting the squad. To nominate your club, volunteer or try of the month for November, please click here.
