Arnold Clark Premierships feature match: Heriot’s v Ayr

This weekend marks the halfway point for the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership and sees arguably the most important fixture to date – Ayr taking on Heriot’s.

So far unbeaten Ayr sit pretty at the top of the table with the maximum 50 points from 10 fixtures, and this weekend they make the long trek east to Goldenacre to face their closest competitors – on the table at least – Heriot’s.

Heriot’s aren’t far behind, on 45 points, with nine wins from 10. The visitors have enviable form, dispatching of Hawick, Edinburgh Academical and Melrose in the past three weeks; while Heriot’s snuck past Kelso 24-17 in the most recent weekend of action.

This is a must-watch match for any fan of the Arnold Clark Premierships. The match kicks off at 2pm on Saturday.

Five things to watch out for this weekend:

  • Currie Chieftains continue an astounding resurgence this season, and will be looking to make it seven wins at the halfway mark of the season as they host 12th placed Kelso.
  • Another Borders derby this weekend as Hawick host Melrose. The teams are in close proximity both geographically and on the table. Hawick sit sixth and Melrose seventh.
  • In the Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership the race to the wooden spoon is heating up as Stewartry host Cartha Queens Park – the home side will be desperate to clinch a maiden win this weekend.
  • League leaders Corstorphine are still gunning for an unbeaten season. Hillhead Jordanhill are the most recent team to stand in their way in a first versus fourth match this weekend.
  • Heriot’s Rugby Women host third-placed Watsonian FC as the visitors continue their push for the crucial second spot in the final, and an opportunity to take on Corstorphine.
