Biggar push past County to claim U15 Girls’ Club Cup

Biggar pushed past Stirling County 22-15 in a close encounter on the international pitch at BT Murrayfield on Saturday afternoon to claim the U15 Girls’ Club Cup title. It was Biggar who made an early impression on the County defence with Geraldine Kimm threatening in attack on several occasions before County turned on pressure of their own after claiming back possession.County wing Rohan Mcpherson then made the most of go forward ball to race over for the first try of the match after seven minutes played to send her team into the lead.Biggar responded shortly after with centre Emelia Knights crossing after breaking the defensive line in fine style before Katie McPherson added the extras with the boot to go in front.Biggar extended the lead through stand-off Emma Orr, who touched down following impressive interplay between backs and forwards as Kimm continued the threaten and scored in the left corner minutes later after racing past the defence. On the 20-minute mark, a break from Stephanie Smith resulted in Kimm gaining possession, motoring down the right, and bagging a brace to extend Biggar’s lead.County refused to allow Biggar’s lead to dampen their spirits and with a strong attacking position secured, second-row Brooke McDonald charged over in the left corner to edge closer to the leaders. As the interval approached, County continued to gain momentum and centre Orla Proctor showed pace and power to canter over the line with her team now within a converted try of Biggar.Half-time: Biggar 22 – 15 Stirling CountyAfter the break, County capitalised on their good work during the closing stages of the first-half with a run in score from Freya Walker in the corner bringing them to within two points of Biggar. Both sides continued to look for the upper hand throughout the second-half, with mistakes from County and Biggar disrupting any further scores. However, in the 56th minute, Biggar managed to turn possession into points courtesy of a try from centre Rachel Phillips who brushed off tackles to find space and sprint over.Full-time: Biggar 27 – 20 Striling CountyPlayer of the Match: Kaylee Fraser (Biggar)Referee: Alexandra HaskettScottish Rugby Girls’ Club Cup U15 FinalBiggar: Geraldine Kimm; Mariana Finlayson, Rachel Philipps, Emelia Knights, Stephanie Smith; Emma Orr, Katie McPherson; Abi Bantock, Mason Cosh CAPTAIN, Kaylee Fraser, Emily Wood-Kidd, Grace Smillie, Jenny Leech.
