This Sunday RHC Cougars travel to Castle Douglas to face Stewartry Sirens as both look to put in a winning performance.Cougars will return to Greenlaw hoping to come away with another victory after previously defeating the Sirens 0-57 in October.Despite this, Stewartry will be focused on closing in on them this time around after recording their narrowest losing margin (5-39) against table toppers Hillhead last Sunday.Playing in the top four has undoubtedly been a challenge for the newly promoted Sirens, but competing with the best women’s teams in Scotland has enabled them to raise their game.Head Coach Sandy Currie said: “The Hills game was always going to be a tough start but then again there is no easy game for us in the top four.We are realistic about these fixtures and set targets that don’t always include winning. Team and individual targets are good alternatives of measuring progress, and I am pleased to report that the team worked very hard and met each of these targets last weekend.”Currie expects this weekend’s match to be equally challenging, and hopes another good week of training will have Stewartry ready and raring to go.Like Stewartry, RHC were also dealt a tough 15-46 defeat last Sunday against the unbeaten Murrayfield Wanderers.Cougars have consistently finished in third place, losing out repeatedly to Hillhead and Wandies, and therefore will be keen to win away from home this weekend to be within a chance of changing their season’s fate. The two leading league sides Hillhead and Wandies will battle it out at Hughenden – both teams hungry for victory as there is only one point between the two at the top of the table.Hillhead will be determined to win at home this Sunday considering Wandies have a game in hand and undefeated this season. In other league matches, Ayr host Stirling County at Millbrae in their first league match since the three week break.Stirling County having lost to Cartha 26-10 last weekend will hope to improve on this performance despite playing away from home again this weekend.
