On Wednesday evening, Stewartry Sirens travelled to Glasgow to take on Cartha Queen’s Park before the league split – winning 58-5 to finalise their place in the top four.Stewartry will now compete in a series of play-offs for the BT Premier League title against RHC Cougars, Hillhead Jordanhill and Murrayfield Wandies – also in the top four. The bottom three teams – Cartha, Ayr and Stirling County respectively, will also compete in a play-off style format to see out the rest of the season.Last weekend, Stewartry Sirens played a friendly against Melrose, winning 66-15 when they visited The Greenyards, whilst Cartha’s match against Stirling County was postponed.New to the league this season, Stewartry have shown their worth and worked hard to win three from six matches with two bonus point victories, landing themselves in fourth place on 14 points.Head Coach Sandy Currie said: “Last night’s match was a good game all round against a team who beat us comfortably the last time we played them.We knew this would be a good test to see how much we have improved. It was very encouraging that we won 58-5 and finish in the top four in the BT Women’s Premier League.”Currie notes that the hard work really starts with some tough games ahead, but the Sirens are positive and look forward to the challenge in the knowledge that they will improve and learn by playing strong teams. In the BT Women’s National League Division 1, this Sunday, Kirkcaldy host Broughton (kick-off 2pm) as they hope for a win to bring them up into the league top spots.Kirkcaldy are fifth on five points, along with Greenock Wanderers (fourth, five points) and Glasgow University (sixth, five points). As Broughton are third with eight points, a win from them would take up them up into second place. In Fife, Howe Harlequins host BT Women’s National League Division 2 debutants Helensburgh and hope to continue their unbeaten record and hold onto first place.Helensburgh on the other hand, will look for their first win of the season. In the Sarah Beaney Cup, Annan travel to Aberdeen to take on Aberdeenshire Quines on Sunday and will battle for the chance to go through to the next round – Annan looking to better their position as they are currently fourth out of fifteen teams.
