Safeguarding Training

Take part in our Scottish Rugby CWPS and CWPO courses this season.

It is mandatory for anyone with safeguarding responsibilities to attend (regardless of any previous non sport related training):

Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS). The CWPS covers the basics of child protection and safeguarding so we would recommend attending this course first.

There are courses available free through Scottish Rugby throughout the season-any available dates are on SCRUMS . You can book onto this course by going into the Browse Course section of SCRUMS.

You can also email us at [email protected]  to let us know if your club would be interested in hosting this course. Anyone at the club who is interested in learning more about safeguarding can attend and we ask that the club can guarantee attendance of at least 20 people.

If none of the dates / venues on SCRUMS are suitable for you or if you prefer to complete this course online, this is also being delivered regularly by other sports through Sport Scotland. If you do complete this course with another sport, please send a copy of your certificates to us at [email protected] and we will add this to your SCRUMS training record.

Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO)- the CWPO is a Safeguarding Officer specific course which covers roles and responsibilities of SOs, PVGs and how to deal with cases.

Scottish Rugby run this usually twice a year for those in a safeguarding role. This is also being delivered regularly by other sports through Sport Scotland if you prefer not to wait.

CWPS and CWPO courses should be completed within 3 months of starting any safeguarding role and CWPS training refreshed every three years.

Introduction to Adult Safeguarding module- Scottish Rugby have introduced an online e-module on adult safeguarding now mandatory for those in a safeguarding role. This can be found on SCRUMS in the e-learning section. There are 2 available- one for mainstream clubs, and one designed specifically for our volunteers based in mixed ability clubs/clans who may be working with protected adults.
