Davidson and Grove-White selected for 2020 7s Series
Two of Scotland’s leading match officials have been appointed to the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020, which commences in Glendale, Colorado on 5-6 October.
Sam Grove-White and Hollie Davidson, who both officiated on the last circuit, are part of a team of 26 match officials from 15 nations.
Grove-White spent April in the USA where he was selected to take charge of a number of Major League Rugby matches. He was also awarded the World Rugby Sevens Series Bronze Final in Hamilton, New Zealand last season.
Their participation on the circuit will give the pair the opportunity to put themselves in contention to be selected on the panel of referees for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
On the announcement, Sam Grove-White said: “I’m really excited to be involved in the series for another year, especially with the Olympics in Tokyo closing in.
“The teams will be pushing ourselves hard to arrive in good form, so it’s important we are in top condition over the season to put us in contention for Olympic selection.”

Last season Davidson, who is Scottish Rugby’s first female contracted referee, had her maiden Women’s Six Nations appointment earlier in the year, officiating Wales v Ireland, along with taking charge of her first men’s international match between Cyprus v Malta.
She was selected as the referee for the final of the Langford (Canada 7s), Glendale USA 7s, Sydney 7s 1-3 Feb at the Women’s Sevens Series, as well as the Australia v New Zealand Women’s fixture in Perth earlier this month.
Hollie Davidson added: “It’s great to be on the 7s circuit for our fourth season. This promises to a big year with preparation leading into the Olympics.
“Having increased the number of tournaments is great for the game, culminating with a joint competition in Paris to end the season, where Sam and I will be refereeing.”
Women’s Sevens Series Panel: Sara Cox (England), Hollie Davidson (Scotland), Emily Hsieh (USA), Lauren Jenner (New Zealand), Adam Jones (Wales), Sakurako Kawasaki (Japan), Tyler Miller (Australia), Ashleigh Murray (South Africa), Joy Neville (Ireland), Amy Perrett (Australia), Madeline Putz (Australia), Tevita Rokoverneni (Fiji), Julianne Zussman (Canada)
