2022 FOSROC SUPER6 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 7

2022 FOSROC SUPER6 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 7

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

Round seven of the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Championship kicked off on Friday where Watsonians were victorious against hosts Stirling Wolves (21-33), Heriot’s narrowly missed out on a win on home soil against neighbours Boroughmuir Bears (22-25) and Ayrshire Bulls took away a convincing win in their double header against Southern Knights at Myreside (31-5).

FRONT ROW

The number one jersey goes to Boroughmuir Bears prop Callum Smith for his hard work and strength. He is partnered by Euan McLaren who earns the second prop position for the impact he made after coming off the bench for Heriot’s.

Hooker goes to Cal Davies from Watsonians for his good ball carrying and dynamic open play.

SECOND ROW

Kwagga Van Kiekerk earns his spot in the second row for immense shift he put in for Watsonians and for being his game’s FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match. He is joined by Bears’ number five Callum Atkinson who used his strength and height to score for his team.

BACK ROW

Archie Smeaton is the first to be named for the back three. His outstanding performance helped the Bulls gain their convincing lead over their visitors. He is partnered with Gregor Hiddleston in openside flanker for showing his pure strength and earning Wolves a try.

Jack Mann is named as number eight for his consistently excellent carries and attack for Heriot’s.

HALF BACKS

This week, both half backs included in our selection were named FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match for their respective games. Ayrshire Bulls’ Cam Jones receives the scrum half spot for earning his team a bonus point try, whilst Bruce Houston is named fly half for his top form kicking skills and his nifty cross-field kick which perfectly set up Heriot’s second try.

CENTRES

Despite playing at number thirteen at the weekend, Ryan Southern is called up to the number twelve spot as he was too impressive in his game not to be included. His centre partner position is given to Watsonians’ Lewis Berg whose pure power allowed him to score his team’s second try of the game.

BACK THREE

Angus Guthrie narrowly misses out on a place in our Team of the Week as Southern Knights’ Aidan Cross gains the position in the wing. His excellent performance earned the Knights’ only try of the game against Ayrshire Bulls. Joining Cross on the other wing is Heriots’ Nyle Godsmark for his quick thinking and even quicker feet after picking up Houston’s cross field kick and scoring for his team.

At full back, Liam McNamara earns his spot for his tactical and swift play.
