Doddie Weir celebrates 50th Birthday on Podcast

2 Jul 2020

On this week’s episode, Doddie Weir joins us from his home in the Borders as he gets ready to celebrate his 50th birthday and current Scotland International Molly Wright talks us through her journey to the national team.

Doddie tells us how he’ll be celebrating the milestone and how he has been keeping busy and entertained during lockdown with his family.

“To be fair I’ve quite enjoyed it [lockdown]. Being with the family, not doing very much, driving my tractor, drinking a bit of Guinness and red wine. I’m enjoying it, but I’m not sure if the wife and kids are enjoying having me around the house as much.” – Doddie Weir OBE

Doddie Weir revealed he was suffering from motor neuron disease in June 2017. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help find a cure for this devastating disease and support those affected by MND. My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is committed to raising funds to aid research into the causes of motor neuron disease and investigate potential treatments. The Foundation was awarded full charitable status in November 2017 and by the two-year anniversary in November 2019, £4 million has been committed to research programmes and grants for practical support for MND patients. Doddie’s energy and drive continues to inspire everyone around him.

Scotland forward Molly Wright gives an insight into her rugby journey from putting her boots on in New Zealand for the first time to playing for Scotland.

“It was a pretty speciall day. The only thing that would have made it better is if my parents could have been there, but they were at home watching on their laptop. It was a very proud moment, I probably didn’t expect top play at this level.” – Molly Wright, Scotland international
