Everyone’s Game | Your stories
Earlier this week as part of our #EveryonesGame launch, we asked you all to share the person, club or organisation that made you fall in love with rugby. We were blown away with the responses we received on social media, which ranged from parents to clubs to high-profile names within the Scottish game. Here are a few of our favourite replies...
I didn't have any boots so was always to embarrassed to give rugby a try. Jim McMahon @LivingstonRFC got me boots so I could join in. First day at club and I ended up going on a bus to play an u14 fixture v Kirkcaldy. 36 years at the club and counting….. #BeMoreLikeJimmy

Langholm RFC for me, turned up when I was eight and that was me hooked and Waland Doreen Hislop was a huge influence on my love of the game and helped mould some great lads into better men.
Paul Gardner, Facebook
@HighlandRugby – welcomed me into the touch rugby community at 38 years old. Fell in love with the game and haven’t looked back. Best sport in the world.

For me it's gotta be watching Greenock Wanderers every Saturday afternoon at the Fort Matilda in the pram and growing up watching players and now playing and coaching at @GWRFC_Official

Ian Tomney, Head of PE at Crookston Castle Secondary school was the man responsible for introducing me to rugby, and Cartha Queens Park quite simply more of a family than a club?
Andi Wilson, Facebook
For many, it was a member of the family who opened the door to rugby
My Dad John Campbell 1928-2020. He inspired me by taking me to any rugby match, schoolboys club international and sevens. He would watch me play and his enthusiasm was for my my teammates. He supported his grandson. He was a rugby inspiration to many and we live it everyday. https://t.co/iMsANBQbyI

Both my Grandads. Both loved the game. One was involved with Melrose and one Gala. Sadly they have both passed away and I’m so proud to still be playing and carrying on their love of the game.
Matt Galbraith, Facebook
My old aunt, who passed away last Oct aged 88. First took me to @Gala_Rugby 7s in the early 70s when I was around 10. Been in love with the game ever since. Thanks Aunt Mae XX

And for some, their route into rugby was trail blazed by the giants of our game
Your very own Bill McClaren
1979, my first games lesson at an Essex comprehensive and our rugby teacher, a passionate rugby loving Welshman, played us a short vid that started with the words “Twickenham, the hone of rugby football” read by the peerless Bill.

My chiropractor introduced me to rugby. My first game was ??????? v ?? in November 2017, just incredible. I then started following @EdinburghRugby and now season pass holders. My youngest son started playing at Dunfermline RFC 2 years ago and now I'm team manager. Rugby is our life ?
