Fan Q&A: Lisa Thomson
Fans send in questions for a Q & A with Lisa Thomson, Scotland Women Captain.
How long have you been playing rugby?
I started playing mini rugby from around five/six years old.
Best rugby memory?
Getting our first away win in Ireland at last season’s Six Nations.
Have you always played outside centre?
I played hooker for a little while when I was younger at U15 level but quickly moved to the backs and played a bit of 10/12 and now 13.
Was it daunting playing for the national team for the first time?
Yes a little, coming up against England for my first cap was daunting but when I got on the pitch to play it all went away and it felt just like a game.
What do the team like about playing at Scotstoun?
We love the atmosphere that has been created at Scotstoun with the home crowd really helps and we can feel them really getting behind us!
What was it like stepping onto the field in Italy as captain for the first time?
Exciting! I still don’t think it’s sunk in.
You have had a busy few years with the experience of playing in France and now down at Darlington, how do you think this has shaped you as a player and personally?
Being out in France was great to see how other club teams played and other nations trained. It was great to then bring things back to Scotland and hopefully it has helped the national team as well as me personally.
What advice do you have for girls interested in playing rugby?
Just give it a go! You’ll make some of your best friends.
