Comments from the Coaches:

Pat McArthur (Ayrshire Bulls) said:

“We welcome Sprint Series finalists Heriot’s Rugby back to Millbrae this week. They are a well-balanced side, posing threats both at set piece and out wide. It will be a physical and bruising encounter if the last two fixtures are anything to go by.

“The Bulls are eager to put in a good showing in front of the Millbrae crowd after being on the road the last few weeks.”

Ben Cairns (Heriot’s Rugby) said:

“Last week’s match was a real nail biter and one we probably could have/should have lost. There was a bit of rustiness having returned from an early bye week but it was really pleasing to see the guys dig in at the end to get the win.

“That last defensive effort is something we will need to replicate for large portions of Friday night’s match if we are to get the desired result.

“The Bulls are growing into the competition having looked stronger every week and I am sure they will be looking forward to getting back to Millbrae after back-to-back away matches. We had a couple of terrific contests at Millbrae in the Sprint Series, and we are expecting more of the same on Friday night.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Eddie Pollock (Stirling Wolves) said:

“After another close loss last week at Goldenacre the squad are looking forward to being back at Bridgehaugh and fully focused on the importance of getting a win under our belts.

“The Futures have been high-scoring in both of their games so far, producing some excellent attacking rugby. Our defence will need to be well organized and alert to cut out their obvious attacking threats.

“We have rotated the squad this week to get opportunities to several players who have made good impact of the bench in our last two games. Everyone has worked exceptionally hard at training to look at ways we can improve, and I am looking forward to seeing how the squad reacts to last week’s disappointment.”

Scott Forrest (FOSROC Future XV) said:

“We are looking forward to building on the positives from the first 2 matches, where the players showed some real energy and intent. This week’s selection shows some similarities from Rounds 1 & 2 especially in the backs.

“It’s great to have Ali Rogers and Finn Duraj involved, 2 young front players who were involved with Scotland U20s last season. It’s also great to welcome back Tom Currie after a lengthy injury absence. The squad shows a number of players who will be hoping to continue their development towards Scotland U20s later in the season.

“This has been a steep learning curve for these young players and undoubtedly Stirling Wolves will pose another tough challenge on Saturday. We know that Stirling play an expansive brand of rugby so it should make for an exciting match.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Graham Shiel (Boroughmuir Bears) said:

We were pleased with some parts of our performance versus Watsonians in Round 3. Whilst we were more competitive in the first 40-minutes last week, we fell away in the 3rd quarter and were unable to find a way back into the game versus Watsonians. The overall assessment was that it was still a step in the right direction for the group, but as always there is plenty of room for improvement.

“It has been a positive week of training for the Bears and having a settled match day squad had meant players have had plenty of game time over the first 3 rounds. We have several players returning to the squad this week and are looking for opportunities to stake a claim for positions, so hopefully a bit of competition internally will push standards and performance moving forward.

“Southern Knights presents another big challenge for the Bears in Round 4, they have recorded a solid win and pushed two of the top teams in the competition close. We are aware of the threats that they possess and we will need to step up our game again this week to meet the challenge.”

Alan Tait (Southern Knights) said:

“We’re looking forward to the game this weekend and took a lot of learnings away from Saturday loss but feel we are still moving in the right direction as a group.

“The Bears and the Knights always have close battles, both teams are filled with a number of talented players and youngsters and both teams will be looking to play an expansive, fast paced style of rugby so it should be entertaining, as well as physical.”
