Heriot’s secured home advantage for this fixture last weekend when they recorded a victory over the Bears after trailing at half-time.

Andrew Kelly’s men have had a mixed bag of results throughout the season, recording four wins and six loses.

The opened their campaign with a defeat to the Bears, in the last play of the game captain Iain Wilson scored a try but the conversion bounced off the posts, which would have levelled the scored. The next weekend they were defeated by finalists Southern Knights on home soil.

They managed to pick up their winning ways by one point away to Stirling County and then convincingly at home to neighbours Watsonians in round four.

The Goldenacre outfit suffered a large defeat on the road to Ayrshire Bulls before the season break but came back in round six to defeat Watsonians once again by only one point, when Nathan Chamberlain slotted a last-minute penalty.

In rounds seven, eight and nine they suffered a dip in form losing at home to Ayrshire Bulls, away to the Southern Knights then by only one point to Stirling County.

Throughout the season, winger Callum Young has produced some great performances. The speedster made 259 metres, nine-line breaks and 21 tackle breaks in nine appearances.

Stand-off Bruce Houston has been another top performer for the Goldenare side. In round four he slotted the first ever drop goal in the FOSROC Super6 to help his team over come neighbours Watsonians. He sits third in the top points scorers of the season with 53 points (behind Jason Baggott 86 and Tom Pittman 67).

In the Heriot’s pack the towering Ruairidh Leishman has impressed throughout the season. He has appeared in all ten games, made ten turnovers, and bagged himself two tries along the way.

Boroughmuir Bears have had a tough campaign this season recording only three wins from ten.

Although there is experience in the Boroughmuir Bears squad, such as full-back Tom Brown, scrum-half Kaleem Baretto and co-captain Craig Keddie, on the whole Graham Shiel brought together a young squad who have gained valuable experience being involved in games of this level.

The Meggetland outfit started their campaign well when they hosted the season opener at home against Heriot’s when Tom Pittman’s five penalties held out two tries and a penalty by the visitors.

In rounds two, three and four they recorded losses on the road to Ayrshire Bulls, at home to neighbours Watsonians, and away to Southern Knights.

In round five they hosted Stirling County at home and recorded a much-needed win before the break in the season. Young second-row Euan Ferrie and full-back Tom Brown crossed the whitewash that day, with Tom Pittman slotting both conversions, two penalties and a drop goal for good measure.

In round six they suffered a heavy defeat to Southern Knights, and Stirling County got their own back on the Bears in the return fixture in round seven. Unfortunately, the Ayrshire Bulls were just too strong for them in round eight too.

They managed an emphatic win over Watsonians in round nine with Kaleem Barretto crossing the line twice as well as tries from Matin Cimprich and Robbie McCallum.

Although it has been a tough season for the Bears there have been several players who have stood out during their league campaign.

Live-wire scrum-half Kaleem Barreto has started all nine games he has appeared in, making six line-breaks and scoring three tries.

Young centre Duncan Munn joined the squad as a Long Term Injury replacement for Ewan Stewart in round three and impressed from the outset. His first senior game of rugby being against Southern Knights at The Greenyards was a baptism of fire but he has went on to make five appearances for the Bears assisting in the scoring of a number of tries along the way.

Scotland U20 back-row Rhys Tait is another young player who has impressed at his first season of senior rugby. The Hawick native cemented himself into the Bears number seven jersey with his work rate and physicality across the park and that the breakdown, earning himself a FOSROC Player of the Match award against Watsonians.

Heriot’s Head Coach Andrew Kelly said: “This is the last game of the season and both teams will be looking to end on a high. We are looking to execute the chances we are creating for ourselves.

“We feel this is the strongest squad we can select to get the 80 minute performance we are looking for.“

Boroughmuir Bears Head Coach Graham Shiel said: “Again we did so much good last week; however we could not complete the performance with a win, although pushed hard at the death. Again much to take from this both positive and negative which has very much been the story of the Bears season. This week provides an opportunity to reflect on what we did well and areas for improvement to allow us to continue our progress and improve in all areas individually and collectively.

“Heriots took the opportunities that they were afforded alast week and we know how dangerous they can be, so we need to be even more alert this week and I am sure both sides will continue to play some open flowing rugby.

“One last shift from the squad this week to measure ourselves against quality opposition and aim to reach the level of performance that we need to be competitive in the Super6 competition and cause Heriots some problems.

“We were very happy wth large parts of our performance last time out but know we need to tighten up our game management and defensive effort if we are to get the result we want.

“Mzwandile Mncube comes into the starting XV to earn a first start of the season. He is joined by Cole Lamberton who is in the unique position of having played as many times against Boroughmuir Bears as he has for them! Great to have Cole getting a chance this week taking over from the injured Ross Dunbar.

“Finlay Scott starts at Hooker this week swapping places with Craig McKenzie who starts from the bench.

“Greg Cannie is in the squad for the first time this season having sustained a significant injury in the final warm-up fixture for this years Fosroc Super6, so good to see him back fit to play.

“Due to injuries we welcome Scotland U20 duo Jamie Drummond and Tom Banatvala to the squad. Jamie as emergency cover from Ayrshire Bulls and will start off the bench and always a thrill to see Jamie taking the field as his work rate and commitment is second to none. Similarly Tom is emergency cover and is studying at Durham University and he comes via Currie Chieftans having played with them prior to resuming his studies.”
