FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week – Round 9

FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week – Round 9

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

The ninth round of the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Championship kicked off on Friday where Ayrshire Bulls were winners against Stirling Wolves at Millbrae (26-0), Watsonians won an Edinburgh derby away to Boroughmuir Bears (10-27) and Southern Knights picked up a win away to Heriot’s Rugby (20-27).

Front row

Harrison Courtney picked up another FOSROC Player of the Match award for Watsonians, making him a shoo-in. His prop partner this week is Murphy Walker, who came off the bench early in the game for Stirling Wolves and put in an industrious shift.

In between them is young Jerry Blyth-Lafferty, who was excellent in both defence and attack and scored a try for Boroughmuir Bears.

Second row

Jamie Berrisford put in yet another strong performance for Watsonians before he was taken off, and earns the number four jersey. He is joined by Alex Samuel, who was the FOSROC Player of the Match at Millbrae on Friday night after a tireless shift for the Bulls.

Back row

Seb Cecil took the captaincy for Watsonians for the first time and led by example at blindside, carrying hard throughout. It was a clean sweep of the FOSROC Player of the Match awards for the forwards this week, with Wallace Nelson collecting the final one for Southern Knights having been involved in most of their good play on both sides of the ball.

At number 8, Rudi Brown was a menace at the breakdown and often made ground in attack for the Knights.

Half backs

Ruairidh Swan kept the pace of the game up for the Bears and found gaps to get them going forward.

Richie Simpson came off the bench for the Bulls and finished the game strongly. The young fly-half is still to miss a kick in the FOSROC Super6.

Centres

Andy Stirrat was a pivotal man for the Bulls’ defence at inside centre, and also created opportunities for his side in attack.

At outside centre, Matt Davidson was also a key defender for his side and stood out in the defeated Heriot’s side.

Back three

On the left wing, Aaron Tait had two difficult opportunities to score for the Bulls and was able to take both with good finishes. His opposite winger this week is Aidan Cross, who himself grabbed two tries for the Knights, one of which required a spectacular dive for the line to get the ball down before being bundled into touch.

At full back, Dom Coetzer showed great strength for his try and was a calm presence at the back for Watsonians.
