Match Preview: Scotland v Wales

In the final round of the 2021 Women’s Six Nations, Scotland host Wales at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday (24 April, kick-off 5pm BST) in the 5th/6th place play-off.

The tournament has taken a new structure this season, comprising of two pools of three teams with each team playing one home and one away fixture. England and France topped their pools and will face each other in the final, Saturday at 2pm – live on BBC Two. Ireland and Italy will compete for 3rd and 4th place at 12noon – live on BBC iPlayer.

Scotland’s contests with Wales have been famously close encounters with the sides keeping within a points difference in the past two occasions (15-17 & 18-17), with Wales taking the edge. Scotland were last victorious in 2017 at Broadwood with Sarah Law kicking a penalty goal on the 77th minute of the game and securing the win, (15-14). The sides are closely matched so it’s set to be an exciting encounter at Scotstoun this Saturday.

The teams are in

Scotland Head Coach Bryan Easson has made a number of personnel and positional changes to his team to face Wales. In the backs, Jenny Maxwell will make her first start of the 2021 tournament at scrum-half, while Hannah Smith returns from GB Sevens camp to start at outside-centre with vice-captain Lisa Thomson moving back to inside centre.
