Molly Wright Q&A

Molly Wright Q&A

Find out more about Scotland forward Molly Wright in our Q&A below.

Where and when did you start playing rugby?

I started playing when I was 4 years old, for Reefton Rugby Club. A small town club in New Zealand.

What was your first rugby memory?

My early rugby memories are the hour long journeys each way through the Buller Gorge to get to the nearest clubs for us to play. We would all pile onto the bus at 7 in the morning to travel to Westport for the games.

Are there any other sports you enjoy playing or watching?

I enjoy pretty much all sports. Particularly the ball related ones though.

What motivates you?

Food. And coffee.

Tell us about getting your first Scotland cap… What game was it and what was your experience?

We were playing Spain away for my first cap. It was in 2020. It was my first time in a match week camp. I only have happy memories from the trip. The sun was shining, we were all in a really good place that week with training and preparation. The crowd in Spain, was loud but provided such an exciting atmosphere. Unfortunately Lana was carded that game, and so I came on for a scrum, which went backwards (because we were a forward down). But, after that managed to settle into the game and enjoy the experience. We ended up winning which is always a good day in a Scottish shirt.

Share an inspirational quote with us

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” (I just googled that)

Who is your hero/role model or someone that’s been an inspiration to you and why?

Megan Gaffney – because she can run really fast, for a really long time.

What is the most memorable match you’ve played in and why?

I think probably France in 2020. It was a delayed Six Nations match, in October. It was my first game playing at Scotstoun, and our first game back during the pandemic. No crowd. No expectations. And, we drew the game. Unbelievable. I think that was a great example of what we know we can achieve with this squad and this team.

Who’s your favourite Scotland player to be on the pitch with?

Mmmmmm. That’s quite a tough question. Maybe Sarah Law. She is a calming influence in stressful situations.

What are you currently watching?

10 Things I Hate About You

What is something good that happened to you recently?

Today I was treated to nice coffee, and ice cream. I love them both.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to start playing rugby?

It’s the best sport you will ever play. So starting early is better. Be prepared for the fun times, and the good vibes.

What are the characteristics of a Scotland player on the pitch?

Passionate, Proud, and Persistent (Stubborn).
