Scottish Rugby Teams Up with My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to Raise MND Awareness

4 Nov 2025

Scottish Rugby’s commitment to promoting the vital fundraising work being led by the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation will continue at this weekend’s match against the All Blacks and remaining Quilter Nations Series games in November at Scottish Gas Murrayfield through the quick thinking of the Scotland team’s kit manager.

Mark Beels, who also held the same role on the British & Irish Lions tour this summer, saw a promotional opportunity in the empty space on front of the team’s matchday warm-up shirts and got to work.

The autumn Test matches connect closely to former Scotland international Doddie Weir who memorably presented the match-ball in 2017 for the game against New Zealand and put his MND diagnosis in the spotlight, which went on to generate millions of pounds for research.

The charity itself is one very close to Scottish Rugby hearts and with Doddie having been present during the last two visits of the New Zealand Rugby Union it felt even more significant to use the opportunity this year again as a way of continuing Doddie’s legacy and relationship with the New Zealand fixture.

Speaking on the idea Mark Beels said: “We wanted to highlight the amazing work the charity does in light of the recent news surrounding Lewis Moody’s diagnosis and in the hope that it also sends a message to him and his loved ones that Scottish Rugby are standing with him in his fight, as was the case with Doddie.

“The buy in from both the charity and Scottish Rugby was instant and we are delighted and proud to be providing another platform to champion the work being done by the Foundation.”
