Get stuck into the action from the opening weekend of the Tennent's Leagues for the 2021/22 season!

Tennent’s National Leagues

In the Women’s National 1 league, Garioch welcomed Broughton to Kellands Park, claiming a 36-0 victory. Lock-forward Alisha Ross picked up Player of the Match.

Elsewhere in the competition, Annan Warriors took on Stewartry Sirens, with the visitors sealing their first win of the season, 7-35. Scoring two of the Sirens’ seven tries, flanker Fiona Sheddan was named Player of the Match.

In the Men’s National 1 league, Ayr made their way to Canal Park to take on Highland. Their journey north was rewarded, with a one point victory as Jamie Bova slotted his penalty kick over the posts in the 77th minute, taking the final score to 12-13.

Another fixture with a narrow win, hosts Preston Lodge secured a two point lead over Glasgow Academical in National 2, 12-10.

In National 3, Murrayfield Wanderers welcomed Perthshire to Roseburn Park. Whilst playing for their first win of the season, the teams were also playing for the Adam Pattinson trophy, established in memory of former Perthshire player Adam Pattinson who sadly passed away in an accident two years ago. Wanderers scooped the win, 28-7.

Tennent’s East Leagues

It was a big opening weekend for East Division 1. Ross High started their season with a strong 40-6 win at home against Haddington.

On the other side of Edinburgh, Forrester hosted Linlithgow. Captain John McMillan scored two of Forrester’s five tries in the match, taking the hosts to a 37-21 win.

In East Division 3, Edinburgh-based Liberton travelled to Netherdale to face Gala YM, which saw the hosts come out on top with a 40-0 win. Full-back Alex Selkirk scored 14 of Gala YM’s points.

Tennent’s Caledonia Leagues

In Caledonia 1, Dunfermline secured their first win of the season in a local derby against neighbouring Glenrothes, 35-14. With a hat-trick of tries, winger David Lovelock was awarded Player of the Match.

In Caledonia North Division 2, Moray claimed their first win of the season over their travelling opposition Mackie, 20-14.

Elsewhere in the Caledonia Midlands set up, Bannockburn scored an impressive seven tries against Perthshire 2XV to take a 43-12 win in Division 3.

In another local head-to-head, Huntly kick-started their campaign in Caledonia North Division 3 with a 21-13 win over Garioch.

Tennent’s West Leagues

Just one point stood between Strathdendrick and Cambuslang in West Division 1’s opening fixture of the league, but it was the hosts who clung onto the victory, 23-22. Cambuslang still took two bonus points out of the trip, with four tries scored between Chad McGlame (2), James Gray and Euan Jones.

In West Division 2, home side Strathaven secured a strong 45-14 win over visitors Uddingston, whilst Oban hosted Clydebank for a 30-6 home victory.
