Scottish Rugby
It’s the ninth week of lockdown in the UK and we once again have a variety of content to keep you entertained and informed over the next seven days.
The iPRO Hydrate Skills Challenge continues this week with a kicking challenge for you to try at home for the opportunity to win a fantastic bundle of iPRO Hydrate prizes worth £200 and then tomorrow we’ll have another quiz to test your rugby knowledge over on Instagram @ScotlandTeam.
On Wednesday, we’ll be showing our final regular midweek as-live game and this week we’re going back to March to relive an emphatic win for Scotland U20 over Wales in Colwyn Bay – the first time the full game has been shown in HD with English commentary. Get a glimpse of some of our young stars of the future, including Edinburgh’s new signing Nathan Chamberlain, captain Rory Darge and backs Ollie Smith and Rufus McLean. The game will be shown at the slightly earlier time of 6pm BST and will be available on our YouTube channel and Facebook page, powered by SP Energy Networks.
On Thursday, you can download the latest episode of The Official Scottish Rugby Podcast and this week Al Kellock, Rachel Malcolm and Jamie McMillan are joined by Scotland captain Stuart Hogg to talk in-depth about leadership. The captains of both our men’s and women’s teams are on the podcast together for the first time to give an exclusive insight into how they lead their respective international sides.
On Friday evening, ahead of this week’s as-live game, Al Kellock and John Manson catch up with former Scotland international Kenny Logan to chat about this week’s classic Scotland encounter in the Crabbie’s Changing Room.
For this week’s classic Scotland match, we’re going back to the 1999 Five Nations Championship and the penultimate encounter of that title-winning campaign against Ireland at BT Murrayfield, powered by BT. The game features current Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend, as well as the likes of Kenny Logan, Glenn Metcalfe, Alan Tait, Gary Armstrong and Tom Smith. The full match will be available on our YouTube channel and Facebook page from 7pm BST.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh Rugby will run an 1872 Cup themed week of content with this Saturday originally set to be the third and deciding intercity derby against Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield.
The capital club will kick start the week with the launch of an Evening with Edinburgh Rugby, sponsored by P&P – giving supporters the chance to purchase a ticket to ‘dine in’ for the night and join a virtual evening of entertainment with Head Coach Richard Cockerill, Managing Director Douglas Struth an array of former Edinburgh stars.
On Tuesday, the club will reveal supporters’ choices for both Head Coach and Water Boy in their All-Star XV, before Wednesday sees the return of #WallpaperWednesday, with this week’s phone and desktop images all 1872 Cup themed.
The capital club have teamed up with rivals Glasgow Warriors for a special 1872 Cup quiz to be released on Thursday. It sees former Scotland stars Tim Visser and Richie Vernon go head-to-head for a chance to claim intercity bragging rights!
On Friday, Edinburgh will release the latest episode of Inside the Castle, the club’s official podcast, while Saturday is once again game day, with the re-run of the 2017 1872 Cup clash against Glasgow Warriors shown as-live on the Edinburgh Rugby Facebook and YouTube channels at 3pm.
Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors will be putting an 1872 Cup spin on Trivia Tuesday this week, as the club’s stats supremo Kevin Millar (@topofthemoongw) tests the Warrior Nation’s knowledge of the famous fixture in the professional era. There will also be a chance for fans to see how much they know about the club’s record appearance-maker, with a Rob Harley megaquiz in honour of the man himself’s 30th birthday.
We’ll also be teaming up with our friends from along the M8 for a special piece of 1872 Cup content later this week, as Glasgow Warriors cult hero Richie Vernon and Edinburgh’s record try-scorer Tim Visser go head to head in our Legends Quiz – tune in on Thursday to see who emerges victorious!
Glasgow Warriors head coach Dave Rennie is this week’s guest on Warriors Weekly, as he joins Duncan and Craig to look back on his tenure at the club in a special edition of the club’s official podcast. The new episode will be available to download and listen to from 5pm this Wednesday, as we take a look back over the best moments of the past three seasons.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Glasgow District’s unbeaten season in 1989/90, and we’ll be remembering some of the best moments later this week. From the club’s victorious Inter-District Championship campaign to a memorable meeting with Fiji, we speak to a host of the players to have represented Glasgow that season. It’s one not to be missed.
Nick Grigg takes control of the club’s official Instagram account this Thursday, with the centre the latest player featured in our Instagram Takeover series. Join the Scotland international as we find out how he’s keeping fit, what he does in his spare time and how he’s finding life away from the pitch.
