Five Scots in Lions squad for first Test against the Springboks

Stuart Hogg, Duhan van der Merwe and Ali Price will start in Cape Town, with Rory Sutherland and Hamish Watson named as replacements.

Eight Scotland players – including Chris Harris, Finn Russell and Zander Fagerson – were selected to tour with the British & Irish Lions this summer and all have featured in the pre-Test warm-up games.

Saturday’s fixture will feature the most Scottish players in a Lions matchday Test squad since the the 1989 tour of Australia. The last time three Scottish players started for the Lions in a Test was in the 18-15 victory over South Africa in 1997, with Alan Tait, Tom Smith and current Scotland Head Coach and Lions attack coach Gregor Townsend all starting.

The first Test against South Africa gets underway this Saturday (24 July) live on Sky Sports (kick-off 5pm BST).
