10 debuts, 11 tries and 73 points. That’ll do.

Right, off to your bed! It’s midnight if you’re watching back home!

We’ll see you next weekend as we take on USA in game two. Thanks for following on the Scottish Rugby Match Centre.

80

STEYN FINISHES THE SCORING!

One final score!

Knock on from Canada, it’s picked up and two phases later Healy gets halfway through a tackle and offloads to Steyn who charges over in acres of space. Healy converts to make the final score Canada 12-73 Scotland.

80

Loose lineout

With seconds left, it’s a knock on at the lineout from Scotland. Canadian scrum a metre inside our half.

77

Canada scrum five metres out

Bit loose from Scotland, and Steyn is forced to touch down over his own line.

Canada will get the scrum five metres from our line.

80

Smith jackal!

Canada go side to side, and eventually it’s an excellent jackal penalty win from Robbie Smith that gets us the ball back.

We exit to just inside our own half on our right.

76

Scotland lineout

As we try to exit the ball goes into touch via a Canadian player’s back. Our lineout just outside our 22.

74

Offside

Canada get it back but then stray offside.

Our lineout after the penalty, just inside Canada’s 22.

77

Excellent cover tackle!

The ball goes loose and Jason Higgins charges for the left corner, but McDowall works so hard to get there and smashes him into touch.

72

Scotland penalty

We steal it back and then Canada are pinged for an illegal strip of the ball on the floor.

75

McDowall!!

Co-captain Stafford McDowall with the try!

The lineout is stolen but goes loose, and substitute Matt Fagerson gathers. Two phases later McDowall goes in at first receiver, steps inside two men and under the posts. Healy converts.

Canada 12-66 Scotland

70

Knock on

Healy chips over the top, and Steyn tries to grab it out of the sky but can only knock it forward.

Canada scrum around 35m from our line.

67

Held up!

An excellent volley from Reed in midfield, and then Steyn hacks further on. He eventually gathers the ball over the line, but three defenders get to him and hold him up. Canadian goalline dropout.

69

DOBIE!!!!

Plenty of first Scotland tries tonight, and now it’s Jamie Dobie’s turn!

Healy took the ball and found Reed running the inside line, and after breaking the line he found Dobie on his inside with a simple finish. Healy converts.

Canada 12-59 Scotland

65

Canada penalty

Canada penalty for not rolling, it’s kicked deep into our 22 on their right.

66

Obstruction

Obstruction at the maul, a penalty for Scotland to use to exit.

64

Wing debut

Warr is off for Ross McCann, making his debut.

Steyn is also back on for Currie, and Millar Mills has come back on for Hurd.

61

DESERVED HARRY PAT SCORE!!!

What a try!

Ewan Johnson with an excellent steal on our 22. We then break down the right through Richardson and Dobie. Then it’s back to the middle of the pitch before Dobie gets it on the right again, and offloads to Harry Paterson who has been outstanding so far.

Healy nudges through the conversion via the post. Now time for a water break.

Canada 12-52 Scotland

59

Off feet

We get the ball back and exit, but then Bayliss is off his feet and Canada kick the penalty to just outside the 22, again on their right.

58

Canada penalty

As we attempt to run from deep again, we’re penalised this time and Canada kick to the right corner.

54

REED AGAIN!!!

Straight from kick off!

We break from our own 22 down the right through Richardson, who, for a hooker, is one pacey man.

Then it’s over to the left where Reed is in space, and steps round the last defender to finish in the corner. Unbelievable conversion from Thompson too!

Canada 12-45 Scotland

52

WARR BLIMEY!!!

Harry Paterson is not bad at rugby.

He breaks through on the right, and running the classic scrum half support line is Warr to score his second.

Thompson converts.

Canada 12-38 Scotland

51

Prop swaps

Will Hurd and Nathan McBeth come on for debuts. Off go Millar Mills and Sutherland.

47

Canada penalty

Try Canada

Another penalty for Canada which they tap quickly, and a phase later Kyle Baillie is in. It’s converted too.

Canada 12-31 Scotland

45

ANOTHER DEBUT TRY!

This time it’s Gus Warr!

We get a penalty on halfway and the scrum goes quickly. Between Warr, Reed, Dobie and Bayliss we get inches short, and a few phases later the man who started it ends it with a snipe at a ruck.

Thompson converts.

Canada 5-31 Scotland

41

Restarted

COME ON SCOTLAND!!

43

Lineout

Canada exit, and as Scotland run from deep Currie, who returned from an earlier replacement, tries to hack on but it goes out on the full. Canada lineout just inside our half.

HT

Half time

A bit of kick tennis before Canada decided it’s time for some juice and oranges. Four first half tries, we lead at the break.

41

Scrum

Scotland compete for the kick off but knock it on. Canada get the scrum in their 22.

37

Canada scrum

Not long left in the half now. A knock on just inside our half in the centre, and Canada will scrum down there.

39

…now a Scotland scrum

A few phases from Canada in midfield without really threatening, and then a spill on our left wing gives us the scrum.

34

Try saved!

Canada get over the line, but Scotland steal the ball as a group of players hit the deck!

Elliot Millar Mills comes away with it, but is heaved down over the try line. It’s a Scotland goalline dropout.

30

REED FOR SPEED!!!

It’s a debut try for Arron Reed!

We break left from the scrum through Paterson, then go all the way to the right wing where Richardson makes 15 metres.

Then it’s all the way back to the left where Paterson is through again, and a fabulous infield offload finds the Sale Sharks man to score. Conversion is wide.

Canada 5-26 Scotland

33

Canada penalty

Scotland penalised. Canada kick to the right corner.

28

Spilled

Canada gets some phases together, but then a knock on gives Scotland the scrum.

It’s inside our half, around our 10m line on our right side.

26

Richardson gets a second!!!

From the lineout, we go to the maul and the organisation is impeccable. Dylan Richardson waits patiently at the back before going over for his second try of the day. Thompson is wide with the kick.

Canada 5-19 Scotland

27

Lineout

Big exit from Scotland into Canada’s half. The lineout is on their 10m line.

Good phase play from Scotland, then Canada are penalised for not releasing. Thompson kicks to the right corner.

21

Scotland clear

Knock on from Canada, and from the scrum Scotland exit into Canada’s half, where the home team have a lineout.

23

Goal line dropout

A short spell of kick tennis before Thompson’s kick goes over Canada’s try line and they touch it down. They’ll exit from there.

19

Temporary sub

Harry Paterson is going to get a facial injury examined. Kyle Steyn comes on.

Meanwhile, we’re penalised at the scrum and Canada hoof the pen into our 22. Before anything else though, we’ll have a water break.

19

Knock on

More good phase play and momentum building from Scotland, but there’s a knock on and Canada get the scrum.

13

BAYLISS!!!!

Scotland hit back quickly.

The initial break came on halfway as Gus Warr combined with Paterson. It looked like the attack was stalling, but Paterson then broke through again and found Josh Bayliss in space to finish the move off.

Thompson’s kick sails through.

Canada 5-7 Scotland

16

Richardson’s turn!!!

From the kick off, Scotland kick back and then Canada kick too long and dead.

From the resulting scrum, Ross Thompson charged through and found Dylan Richardson for his first Scotland try. Thompson converts.

Canada 5-14 Scotland

7

Another pen

Matt Currie offside. This time, Canada kick to their left corner.

9

Canada lead

Andrew Quattrin scores from the back of the maul. Conversion missed.

Canada 5-0 Scotland

2

First penalty for the hosts

Canada get the first penalty in their own half as Scotland don’t roll away.

It’s kicked to our 10m line. Lineout on the hosts’ left wing.

4

Canada up the right

From the lineout, Canada get the driving maul going. The ball comes out and Andrew Coe breaks down the wing, kicks over the top, and kicks again. It rebounds off of Paterson and goes out for a home lineout on our 22.

5

Another Canada pen

We play the 9 before the ball comes out of the maul. Canada kick into the right corner.

3

Mark!

Canada kick over the top, an easy catch for Harry Paterson in his 22 and he calls the mark, before hoofing it deep into Canadian territory and out.

Anthems observed, passionately if not tunefully, and we’re about ready to go.
