Scotland win their first WXV2 game. Four maul tries, and another try in the first phase from a lineout, gave the blues a 31-17 win in Stellenbosch.
Lana Skeldon is announced as the Mastercard Player of the Match, with her two tries crucial in the win. Evie Gallagher, Leah Bartlett and Lisa Thomson also went over in the bonus point victory.
It’s on to next Friday now, where Scotland will take on USA.

It’s South Africa’s put-in to the scrum as Scotland’s lineout doesn’t go straight.
And they win the penalty once more from the scrum, which is kicked to touch.

Scotland get the ball back, but then take it back into their own 22 before Thomson kicks out on the full.
It’ll be a South Africa lineout where it was kicked, around 15 metres out from our line.
Scotland charge down the clearance kick, and then Smith makes a break in midfield.
The ball is then worked left to Orr, who just gets it away to McGhie to finish in the corner.
But we’re going to the TMO here…
Konkel comes off for an HIA, and McLachlan will come back on.

After a brief treatment for Bartlett, South Africa hoof it into our 22.
This time it’s Leah Bartlett!
Emma Wassell took the ball down, and the loosehead prop was at the back of the maul to ground the ball.
A successful conversion from Meryl Smith too, and we lead by 14.
Not straight from the lineout, but the resulting scrum gives South Africa another penalty.
But the kick doesn’t find touch again, and Mattinson can exit.
Good defence from Scotland at first, but then they concede the penalty on their 10m line.
But South Africa’s kick for touch is kept in! Rollie makes a fantastic break and then Scotland kick clear.
Then as South Africa attempt to run it back, Rhona Lloyd bundles her opposite winger into touch.
Jade Konkel, Caity Mattinson and Meryl Smith come on for Rachel McLachlan, Mairi McDonald and Helen Nelson.
Mattinson’s kick goes well into South Africa’s half, and Scotland put good pressure on. But Konkel is penalised for coming in the side of a ruck.
South Africa’s kick doesn’t find touch again though, and here come Scotland up the left through McGhie!
Scotland’s backs fire it out left from the scrum, and a lovely step from McGhie gets her round her opposite winger.
She’s bundled into touch though, so South Africa get the lineout in their 22.
South Africa’s scrum difficult to contain for Scotland, and it’s another penalty.
They kick it out just inside our half.

Great kick off from Nelson, which Scotland regather.
It’s worked down the left and Francesca McGhie finds space, nearly rounding the full back. There’s then nearly an interception in midfield from South Africa, but it’s knocked on and Scotland have the scrum just inside South Africa’s 10m line.
South Africa kick clear, and McGhie knocks on in the air. A big collision just after it, but nothing doing in the referee’s eyes.

That brings the half to the end, with Scotland seven points up.

We get another penalty though, and it’s put into the right corner.
A second consecutive penalty at the maul for South Africa going in the side.
It’s back into the right corner, presumably with the intention to set up another maul.
As she often does, Skeldon finishes off a maul with a try!
An excellent conversion from Nelson too, and Scotland are two points up.

It’s Evie Gallagher who grounds it at the back, and Scotland go ahead.
Scotland’s clearance kick after the restart is ran back by South Africa up the right. A few dominant phases from the hosts and Aseza Hele thunders under the posts to give South Africa the lead again.
A great break from Mairi McDonald! The scrum half charges up the left, and is brought down just short. Scotland’s forwards try and find a gap, but they can’t get through. Scotland had penalty advantage though, and kick to the corner.
Skeldon returns to the field of play after passing her HIA.
Scotland cause a knock-on at the lineout, an area that has gone well so far.
However, the scrum hasn’t gone as well, and South Africa win another penalty. They kick it to just outside our 22.

Scotland come forward from the restart through Chloe Rollie, and South Africa are pinged at the breakdown for not rolling.
It’s kicked well into South Africa’s 22 by Helen Nelson.
From the lineout, Evie Gallagher rips the ball away at a maul.
But Scotland’s attack is stifled on the left by a jackal penalty, which South Africa kick to touch just inside our half.
South Africa get the nudge on at the scrum, and are awarded the penalty.
They’ll now half a lineout on their 10m line.
Scotland get an excellent driving maul going from the lineout, and charge into the 22.
But Scotland don’t use the ball and South Africa swarm in, causing an unplayable ball and giving South Africa the scrum put-in.
Scotland are turned over in their own half after South Africa’s exit from the kick off, but as South Africa fling it wide to the left and excellent hit from Emma Orr dislodges the ball and causes a knock on.

South Africa are then penalised for being offside, and the resulting penalty is kicked out on the left just outside South Africa’s 22.
Earlier, Lana Skeldon went off for an HIA, and was replaced by Elis Martin.

There’s then a kick to the right wing for Rhona Lloyd, but it just bounces into touch.
As South Africa come forward, Rachel McLachlan looks to have made an excellent steal, but Leah Bartlett is instead penalised for not rolling away.
South Africa will kick for the opening points.

A change to your Scotland team for this afternoon’s opener as Sarah Bonar is ruled out through injury. Louise McMillian replaces Sarah in the starting XV with Eva Donaldson moving onto the bench.
