It’s a fifth consecutive win for Scotland!
To put that into context, Emma Orr and Francesca McGhie weren’t born the last time that happened.
That was a brilliant performance from Scotland. Tries from Francesca McGhie, Emma Wassell, Rhona Lloyd and Chloe Rollie secured the bonus point win.
Lots of big performances, including from Evie Gallagher who is given the Mastercard Player of the Match award.
We go again next week against Japan with a chance to go three from three in WXV2.

An excellent line to cut through the defence, and a brilliant inside step to round Mataitoga, but a cover tackle on the line means the full back knocks it on as she attempts to ground it.
USA exit via the goal-line dropout.

USA try to play from their own half, going from side to side but getting nowhere.
A loose pass puts them under pressure, and as it’s gathered Mattison and Konkel create a maul and trap the ball, causing a turnover.

The maul from the lineout is stopped, and Scotland head into the middle of the pitch. With penalty advantage, Konkel passes behind her to Smith, who finds Rollie to her left, and the full back dummies and darts between two defenders to reach the line.
Smith converts to make the lead 17.
Nearly an instant reply as Tess Feury heads for the left corner, but an excellent cover tackle from Gallagher and she knocks it on!

Another turnover as Gallagher is once again fastest to a dropped ball.
Meryl Smith then stabs a grubber through, and USA have the lineout on their 22.

Then Thomson makes a half break on the right, but a phase later a tough pass to hold for Konkel goes forward as she tries to clutch it at her toes.

Scotland turn it over at the breakdown, and McGhie has a crack down the left.
Mattison then finds a small gap at the side of the ruck, but three USA defenders get to her just inside their half and force her into touch.
Strong winds here, and the lineout doesn’t go straight. USA opt for a lineout of their own.
Now we’ll have a triple sub, as Jade Konkel, Caity Mattison and Meryl Smith come on for McLachlan, McDonald and Nelson.
USA steal the lineout, then kick it back into our half. It takes one bounce and rolls into touch on our right side, just inside our 40.
Scotland steal the lineout and exit. Then USA come forward, but there’s no room on their right as McGhie uses the touchline as an extra defender and forces them into touch on halfway. We’ll have the lineout.

Possession changed hands a few times, but the ball stayed in play for a good few minutes there, with half-breaks on both sides.
It ended with USA passing into touch, so it’s Scotland’s lineout just outside our 40.
USA get a good maul going, but it’s dropped and Evie Gallagher rampages up the field.
There’s a loose pass in midfield, but USA can’t gather it either and knock it on.

A massive scrum from our pack, and USA are penalised for wheeling. Celebrated like a try by Malcolm and Belisle, and rightfully so.
The penalty is kicked into USA’s half.
Scotland exit, but USA come straight back down the pitch and win a penalty five metres out. It’s kicked to touch on our right side.
Scotland caught offside in midfield. USA kick the penalty into our 22 on our left.
USA hit back through Jacoby. It’s a 10 point game at the half.

Scotland’s clearance kick is charged down, and USA ground the ball over the line.

Scotland survive. Another scrum, ten metres further infield than the previous one.
Thomson punts clear from the scrum, then Orr and Christine Belisle create a maul just inside our 22, latching onto the ball and making it unplayable, so Scotland will get a chance to exit further from a scrum.
Another penalty, this time for offside, is kicked into our left corner.
A third penalty for USA, but this time from the lineout it’s knocked on as they set up a maul!

The only problems for Scotland seem to be coming in the ruck. A penalty for off feet is kicked to touch just outside our 22 on our left.

A grubber kick from USA’s 10m line looks to have put Lloyd in for a second, but it just goes dead before she can get there.
USA will have a scrum from where it was kicked.

That could have been Lloyd through again straight from the restart, but Orr’s pass narrowly beats her into touch just outside USA’s 22.
More strong defence from Scotland, but an offside lets them down.

An excellent break in midfield from Lana Skeldon gets us close, and then Mairi McDonald gets over the line but can’t ground the ball.
USA will exit from their line.

It’s wide-wide from the Scottish backs, who head left from the lineout then all the way back to the right wing.
It’s an excellent pass under pressure from Thomson to Rachel McLachlan which creates an overlap. She then finds Rhona Lloyd on the wing who steps outside the last defender and over.
A first US passage of play in a few minutes, but a loose pass goes out on halfway.

From the lineout, we go for a driving maul, but it’s sacked straight away. The forwards continue to burrow for the line, and it’s Emma Wassell who wrestles over!

A loose pass off the scrum is gathered by the US, and after 10 phases not really going anywhere Scotland concede the penalty for diving on the ball beside a ruck.
It’s kicked out halfway between Scotland 10m and 22, so USA will have the lineout there.
USA win their scrum and head left, but there’s a knock on out on the wing.
It’ll be Scotland’s scrum now on their far right, still on halfway.
