It’s a seventh for Scotland! This one is about as textbook as you can get, Jonny Gray winning a line-out, and from the driving maul Finn Russell puts on one a plate for Stuart Hogg to canter over for his 27th international try! Russell converts with ease to make it 45-22.

Full-time: Scotland win 12-try thriller

Argentina get a consolation try at the very end through replacement hooker Ignacio Ruiz, converted by Nicolas Sanchez. It matters not though, as Scotland end their Autumn Nations Series with a seriously impressive 52-29 win over Argentina, who have beaten England and New Zealand in recent months away from home.

Kinghorn on for Duhan

Blair Kinghorn comes on, to play wing, in place fo try scorer Duhan van der Merwe, the colossus having earned an early finish after getting through a mountain of work this afternoon.

TRY Scotland!

Daylight for Scotland! After a series of pick-and-goes, the ball finds its way to Finn Russell, who decides that enough grunt is enough. His deft kick punctures the Argentina defence and Cam Redpath flies into its path before dotting down for his first international try! Russell converts, it’s 38-22 to the home team and the supporters’ mood has gone from mild concern to heady content.

Brief recap from BT Murrayfield

A frantic and fast-paced festival of rugby this afternoon at BT Murrayfield, with Scotland ending their 2022 in the best possible manner against an opponent who narrowly won the sides’ Test series in the summer.

Despite a red card for Marcos Kremer, Scotland still had to get the job done and how. Eight tries rained down through Sione Tuipulotu (2), Duhan van der Merwe, Stuart Hogg, Cam Redpath and a fabulous hat-trick from Darcy Graham.

Finn Russell, named Player of the Match for a delicious display of creativity and imagination, kicked six conversions and passed 250 points for Scotland in the process.

A 52-29 success ends the Autumn Nations Series, with Scotland having beaten Argentina and Fiji, and lose out narrowly to the Antipodean duo Australia and New Zealand.

2023 is a huge year, with Guinness Six Nations and the small matter of a Rugby World Cup in the offing. For now though, Scotland earned whatever break they have pencilled in with an excellent victory.

TRY Scotland!

Another for Sione Tuipulotu! Fraser Brown barges down the middle of the Argentina defence and from the quick ruck, Ben White feeds Stuart Hogg, who delivers the perfectly-timed pass to Glasgow Warrior centre Tuipulotu for his second and Scotland’s fifth of the afternoon. Finn Russell converts – 250 points for Scotland now for the pivot! 29-22 to the hosts.

Redpath on for Harris

Chris Harris has done his work for the day, with Cam Redpath entering the fray for the final 20.

Los Pumas down to 12

Instantly, another yellow is produced by Karl Dickson for deliberately collapsing a maul. This time it’s Tomas Lavanini who take ten on the naughty step. Amend previous post to now read: 15 plays 12 for the next ten minutes at BT Murrayfield.

Hat-trick for Graham!

A new entry into the top 10, as Darcy Graham first joined (with his double) and has now surpassed Grand Slam great Iwan Tukalo and Sean Maitland in ninth place on the all-time Scotland list, with 16. A few more to come you’d suspect from the whippet. Marvellous.

Cam Redpath finds Blair Kinghorn who pins his ears back and heads for the line, before realising he might not make it. He feeds Graham who finishes with the aplomb we are all so accustomed to now. Russell lands a sixth conversion and it’s now 52-22 with time almost up.

Changes for Scotland

Andy Christie makes his first appearance of the Autumn Nations Series, replacing Jack Dempsey in the back row. Matt Fagerson may switch to No 8 with Christie on the flank. George Turner is also on, relieving Fraser Brown after another terrific shift from the hooker.

Jamie Bhatti and Murphy Walker replace Pierre Schoeman and Zander Fagerson in the front row as Scotland look to close this battle out.

TRY Scotland!

What a start to the second half! No prizes on offer for guessing the architect. Finn Russell, at will, is creating stuff that Argentina cannot live with. He slips a tackle, offloads out the back to Stuart Hogg, who in turn feeds fellow Hawick man Darcy Graham, who scampers over from 20 metres. Finn proves he is indeed human with a failed conversion, but we’ll let him off. 24-15.

Fisticuffs from both sets

Now, Karl Dickson will need to wade through quite a list of items here. Darcy Graham goes close in the corner and then all hell breaks loose as both sets of players get a bit spicy in the aftermath, which lasts a good while and involves multiple potential guilty parties.

In the end, both Jamie Ritchie and Thomas Gallo are sent to the bin to think about their actions. It’s become a bit stop-start at BT Murrayfield and you feel more drama might come our way before the afternoon is out..

Try Argentina

Unbelievably, and with only a dozen bodies on the pitch, Argentina show mighty grit to withstand a Scottish attacking scrum and then, to the delight of their fans, Emiliano Boffelli hares home from distance after collecting a loose ball. He converts and it’s 24-22 with 27 minutes to go. Ben White on for Ali Price at scrum-half. The three-player advantage is still there and the crowd are asking for more, starting with a line-out on Argentina’s 22.

Try Argentina

A man down, but Argentina are determined to get to the break with more points on the board. Twice they eschew three points from the tee to go to touch instead. Twice they fall short but after a tap-and-go penalty from five metres, Los Pumas get what they came for. In the end it’s Matias Alemanno who emerges as the close-range try scorer and, with Boffelli’s extras, the lead is cut to four at 19-15 to Scotland. Half-time seconds away.

That is that for the opening half at BT Murrayfield, with Scotland engineering a four-point lead after 40 minutes. This has been a tale of three tries to two, but also of one red card for Argentina.

Scotland led through Sione Tuipulotu’s first international try, only for Jeronimo de la Fuente to put Los Pumas back in the lead shortly after.

When Marcos Kremer was given his marching orders for a reckless arm to Jamie Ritchie, the tide turned and Scottish wingers Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham both produced instinctive finishes to each reach 14 for their country.

Matias Alemanno hauled Argentina back into it before the break but Scotland well-placed.

Finn Russell has been at his orchestrate best, the stand-off fizzing balls around and creating opportunities for his teammates.

Argentine defence resolute

If that’s 10 phases, it’s 20, but Scotland cannot break down the visitors’ superb, dogged defence and eventually Pablo Matera, the No 8, nabs the ball and allows his team to clear. Water carriers and physios pile on as players take a moment to recover.

Yellow adds to Argentina angst

Argentina rally as expected, but Scotland have a firm grip on this now and a line-out on the opposition 22 to boot. Frustratingly, they lose it and then give away a penalty to add insult – referee Dickson wants to just check this for a potential act of foul play by try scorer Matias Alemanno. Looks like head-to-head contact here and that’s confirmed with a yellow presented. 15 plays 13 for the next ten minutes at BT Murrayfield.

Quickfire double for the hosts! Copy and paste on Finn Russell in the Match Centre, the magician once more creating the platform from which Scotland grab a third try. his initial break finds the stampeding Grant Gilchrist who has the foresight to make sure the ball goes backwards in contact and, after a Chris Harris dart for the line, the ball comes back again and the irrepressible Darcy Graham is on hand to contort his way over. No conversion this time but Scotland now lead by more than a score at 19-8.

Oh wow. Finn Russell at it once more, timing his moment perfectly to release Sione Tuipulotu with a sumptuous offload before the centre wriggles and jinks his way to the line for a first Scotland try! Russell converts, Scotland lead 7-3.

It doesn’t take long for Scotland to take full advantage of the man extra! Argentina are already whistled for slowing the ball down at a ruck and, with the knowledge of that penalty to come, Finn Russell squirms out of a tackle to offload in a similar manner to the opening try, this time to Duhan van der Merwe who juggles the ball a couple of times before safely grounding. Conversion slotted from Russell, Scotland 14-8 to the good.

Pumas back ahead

Scotland’s lead doesn’t last long, Argentina forcing a 5m scrum, from which point a scrappy ball finds its way into the arms of the magnificently named Jeronimo de la Fuente, who darts over. Boffelli’s tough conversion from the touchline is missed. 8-7 to Argentina after around a quarter of this one.

Kremer red card for Argentina

Karl Dickson wants a closer look at a nasty clear-out of Scotland’s captain Jamie Ritchie. The aggressor is Marcos Kremer and he’s just flagrantly come in with a forearm to Ritchie’s head. Red card duly given.

One more half to go of this year’s Autumn Nations Series. Scotland, aiming to end on the perfect note, lead Argentina 19-15 at BT Murrayfield.

An early insight into how Scotland are wanting to play as, from a scrum won off the back of a held up maul, Stuart Hogg feeds Darcy Graham who motors his way up to Argentina’s 22. Tackler not getting out the road, penalty Scotland.

After kicking to touch, Russell feeds his full-back who just about escapes the clutches of the opposition defence but runs out of luck with a hopeful out-the-back pass that goes into touch. Scotland starting to purr.

A little under 10 minutes until the final match of the 2022 Autumn Nations Series, and it’s against some familiar opposition. This will be the fourth iteration of Scotland v Argentina in 2022, with the visitors currently enjoying a 2-1 lead in the calendar year tally. A chance, then, for Scotland to redress the balance this afternoon.

The metronome himself, Emiliano Boffelli, lands the first points of the game with ease. Argentina are 3-0 up after a couple of minutes.

Fair amount of kick tennis as the teams feel one another out, Argentina called for an offside and Finn Russell clears up to the region of the visitors’ 22. The clever quick line-out goes awry and Argentina get a penalty from the resulting first scrum of the match. They in turn clear to halfway.
