Garioch Ladies won their first piece of silverware as they were named BT Women’s Bowl winner for 2016/17 after defeating Kirkcaldy 29-20.It was a mixed first quarter as both teams tried to build momentum and instead were tripped up by their own mistakes.Garioch were first to take advantage, scoring a penalty in front of the posts through scrum-half Jeneise Miles. It wasn’t long before Kirkcaldy responded with a penalty goal of their own as outside centre Nicki Redpath sent the ball through the uprights from just inside Garioch’s half.Garioch fought back to open the second quarter with a try from Player of the Match Kimberley Rennicks to give her side the front foot again. After several hard-worked phases, Kirkcaldy then snuck a try of their own as scrum-half Linda Morrison got over the white-wash and stand-off Brenda Brogan added the extras to take Kirkcaldy ahead by two points.Garioch however secured the half with a second try from Rennicks, with Miles converting.HALF-TIME: Garioch 15-10 KirkcaldyThe third quarter saw Garioch dominate as they scored two additional tries first through Alisha Ross and then Sophie Kate Anderson – Miles converting both – to take the score to 29-10.Kirkcaldy battled back in the final quarter while Garioch allowed errors into their game which enabled Kirkcaldy to score two tries of their own, both through Hayley Samuel, but the full-time whistle came too soon for them.FULL-TIME: Garioch 29-20 Kirkcaldy Player of the Match: Kimberley Rennicks (Garioch)Referee: Lee Anne SteelGarioch: Rheo Laurenson; Lisa Shand, Rebecca Bestwick, Sophie Kate Anderson, Liz Baroch; Alana Davidson CAPTAIN, Jeneise Miles; Emily Murphy, Stephanie Campbell, Mandy Kerr, Anna Ross, Alisha Ross, Jess Silcocks, Tina MacIntosh, Lindsey McDairmid.
