Garnock growth gains Positive Coaching Scotland award
Garnock became the 26th club to achieve Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS) accreditation, as they look to continue building their strong youth section in all facets from social inclusion to individual player development. The club highlighted the need for a change in a number of practices, starting with the need to increase the amount of coaches at the club – a figure in which they have successfully doubled – and the requirement to engage more in developing the coaching volunteers, to, in-turn, progress individual players at the club.Garnock PCS leader Peter Dominy said:”The Positive Coaching Scotland process has had an unbelievable positive influence on the growth of our club which goes far beyond coaching. Positive Coaching Scotland has made us consider who we are, what we are trying to achieve and whether we are going about our development in the right way.”We now have a drive to extend the sense of ownership, from each individual, towards the club.”The result, we hope, will be more young people playing rugby to a higher standard and developing a life-long love for our game – a game which we believe can bring a positive influence on the next generation.”The club has re-affirmed their core values which centre around respect, inclusion and a belief that nothing of value is gained without effort.Lead manager for Positive Coaching Scotland at sportscotland Beth Macleod, said: “It was fantastic to have been at Garnock to see them achieve their PCS accreditation and to view first hand how they have taken the positive coaching ethos and placed it at the heart of their club.”The programme is designed to get everyone involved in clubs, like Garnock, who are creating a positive environment for young people participating in sport.”Garnock join Currie, Strathendrick, Melrose, Irvine, Dundee Wasps, Alloa, Berwick, Bishopton, Cartha Queen’s Park, Caithness, Dunfermline, Duns, Ellon, Forrester, Hmailton, Highland, Hillfoots, Langholm, Lasswade, Lochaber, Mull, North Berwick, Peebles, Perth and Stew-Mel Lions by earning PCS accreditation.
