Gerry secures BT Volunteer of the Month Award

The BT Volunteer of the Month Award for February was awarded to Gerry Brankin of Waysiders Drumpellier for his continued promotion of and work with the 2nd XV at the club. Gerry managed to field a 2nd team on three occasions during the month of February and took to the field twice to make sure his side could compete. As well managing the 2nd XV, Gerry is also a committed member of the Waysiders Drumpellier committee and has worked tirelessly to make sure the senior 2nd squad are involved in regular matches. He also makes sure they are looked after off the pitch and regularly prepares food for the squad, as well as keeping a close eye on their showering and pitch facilities. In attempts to promote and develop the club’s 2nd XV, Gerry can often be found on the phone trying to recruit new players as well as generating interest in the club.On receiving his award, Gerry said: “To be acknowledge for my work with the club’s 2nd XV is fantastic, as it can be a difficult job at times, given the amount of time and resource which is required to keep the squad going.I try to look after the squad as best I can and make sure they have everything they need to be successful each time they step out onto the pitch. “In Coatbridge, we are faced with “Old Firm” challenges when recruiting new players to the club, but we try our best to promote rugby as an enjoyable sport within the area.”I enjoy every moment at the club and am looking forward to progressing our 2nd XV in future seasons.
