Glasgow Boys Descend On Scotland’S Top Attraction

Just two days before their only home pre-season friendly of the year – against Sale Sharks at Firhill on Friday 20 August (kick-off 7.30pm) – Scotland’s top professional rugby team, Glasgow Warriors, today descended on Scotland’s most popular attraction, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, for their official 2010/11 team photograph.The location was chosen due to its exceptional status which came as a result of overtaking Edinburgh Castle in the popularity stakes back in 2006. Kelvingrove is also the most visited museum in the United Kingdom outside London and is regularly among the top 30 attractions in the world.Speaking at this afternoon’s photocall, head coach Sean Lineen said: It’s a fantastic spectacle for the people of Glasgow to see all the players in one location somewhere in the community, especially when some of the city’s most iconic buildings provide the backdrop.’these photographs are also a stong representation of what this club is about – we are here to represent Glasgow and we want the people of Glasgow to support the team.’the images also serve as a_ season-long reminder to everyone – players, coaches, staff and supporters – that we are all together in our quest to bring sporting success to the city of Glasgow.This is the second year the Warriors have opted to use an iconic Glasgow location out-with their home at Firhill for their official team photograph.The first was taken prior to the start of their most successful season to date (2009/10) in front of Glasgow’s city chambers – one of the finest examples of Victorian civic architecture in the city – and the Warriors hope events like this will help Glaswegians further associate the team as one that plays for the whole of Glasgow.The main exhibition currently in residence at Kelvingrove is the display of paintings from the aptly named Glasgow Boys.Pioneering Painters: The Glasgow Boys 18801900 runs until Monday 27 September and is the first major exhibition devoted to this influential group of artists since 1968 and is the definitive Glasgow Boys exhibition, comprising around 100 oil paintings and 50 works on paper.All the important artists associated with the group, including James Guthrie, EA Hornel, George Henry, Joseph Crawhall and Arthur Melville are represented.Works from Glasgow Museums’ collections also sit alongside other major pictures brought together from public and private collections across the country.The Warriors penultimate preparation game, against English Premiership side Sale Sharks, takes place this Friday night (20 August, kick-off 7.30pm) and is the only home pre-season game of the year.Tickets – priced _10 for adults and _5 for under-18s and concessions – are available now by CLICKING HERE or by calling 0844 800 3490.
