Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby U16 teams head to Gala for festival with Newcastle Falcons

Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors U16 teams will participate in a festival in Gala on Sunday with Newcastle Falcons U16.

Edinburgh Rugby U16 are made up of players from the Edinburgh and Borders & East Lothian Regional Academies, while Glasgow Warriors U16 are composed of Glasgow & the West and Caledonia players.

Each team will bring two squads to the festival, with each squad playing three 30-minute matches at Netherdale across the grass and 4G pitches. The fixtures are as follows:

Glasgow Warriors Blues v Edinburgh Rugby Gunners – Netherdale, 12pm kick off
Newcastle Falcons 1 v Edinburgh Rugby Reivers – 4G pitch, 12pm kick off

Newcastle Falcons 2 v Glasgow Warriors Whites – Netherdale, 12.50pm kick off
Glasgow Warriors Blues v Newcastle Falcons 1 – 4G pitch, 12.50pm kick off

Falcons 2 v Edinburgh Rugby Gunners – Netherdale, 1.40pm kick off

Glasgow Warriors Blues v Edinburgh Rugby Reivers – Netherdale, 2.30pm kick off
Newcastle Falcons 1 v Glasgow Warriors Whites – 4G pitch, 2.30pm kick off

Edinburgh Rugby Gunners v Glasgow Warriors Whites – Netherdale, 3.20pm kick off
Newcastle Falcons 2 v Edinburgh Rugby Reivers – 4G pitch, 3.20pm kick off

Edinburgh and Borders & East Lothian Academy Manager Bruce Frame said: “Obviously it’ll be a different challenge with Newcastle Falcons, we don’t know a lot about them so it’s the challenge of building on where we got to last weekend with the two wins against Glasgow, I think that’s what the coaches would be looking for.

“We’ve got really good depth across both our teams in all positions, so it’ll be really interesting to see how they go with a different type of challenge in the Newcastle teams.”

Glasgow & the West and Caledonia Academy Manager Jamie Dempsey added: “Any time you’ve got external teams coming across the border, it’s really good for us to benchmark what we’re doing internally.

“For the two Glasgow teams, they’ve got a great opportunity after a year’s worth of hard work to sense check where they are in their trajectory of learning by competing against their peers, which will be really enriching for them.”
