Inter-District Championship: The South maintain 100% start to hit top spot
Once again both matches were tight, with the two teams separated by the less than a score, but it was ultimately the South and Edinburgh who prevailed in round two of the Inter-District Championship.
A 27-25 win at Poynder Park put the South to the top of the table, and made them the only side still unbeaten in this year’s competition.
Kirk Ford’s late penalty gave the hosts the win, who had scored tries from Calum Renwick, Dalton Redpath and Jae Linton. Six Colin Sturgeon penalties, along with Grant Baird’s try, had put Glasgow & the West in front.
It was even closer at Raeburn Place, as Edinburgh pipped Caledonia Reds by a solitary point, scoring in the final play to win 34-33.
Caledonia Reds had lead 33-20, with tries from Max Wallace, DJ Innes, Harry Russell, Sam Cardosi and Malachy Keogh, but late tries from Jamie Sole and Stu Allison added to earlier scores from Sole, Neil Armstrong and a double from Michael Badenhorst turned the score around.
The final round of fixtures takes place on Saturday 6 April.
IDC Round Three:
Caledonia Reds v The South – Canal Park, Inverness (kick off 3pm)
Glasgow & the West v Edinburgh – Braidholm, Glasgow (kick off 3pm)
