The winners of the 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Schools & Youth Conferences can today be announced after the competitions concluded before the winter break.

The Mitsubishi Motors Conferences, launched in 2015, provide a playing environment for young players from S1 (U13) to U18 age groups, where schools and clubs play in conferences based on their stage of development.

The structure is designed to provide more competitive matches across the various leagues of clubs and schools. Competition points are awarded to each match played, enabling every age-group to contribute to the school or club’s success in the overall Conference table.

Boroughmuir claimed the top honours, winning the Shogun Conference, which is the top club division, for the first time while George Watson’s College claimed the Colt Conference, the leading schools’ competition, recording four wins out of five.

“This result is testament to everyone involved in our Academy, from the players to the coaches, and the parents to the senior team players that help out” said Scott Anderson, Boroughmuir Rugby Academy Director, “I’m looking forward to watching our U16 and U18 teams in the National Cups after the New Year.”

On conclusion of this year’s competition Director of Rugby Development Sheila Begbie said, “Scottish Rugby is really pleased with positive impact the conferences continue to have in clubs and schools.”

“The multi-team structure of the competitions has helped pull everyone together and it’s been great for providing regular competitive playing opportunities for boys and girls all around the country.”

“Scottish Rugby extends a big thank you to all involved in the competitions and congratulations to all of this season’s winners.”

Martin Woodward, Partnership Engagement Manager at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “Once again we are very proud to support the Schools and Youth Conferences. It is fantastic to see more children playing more rugby across the nation. Well done to all the people behind the scenes who make it all possible. Many congratulations to all the players who took part, with a special shout out to each of the overall winners.”
