2019 Positive Coaching workshops get underway

22 Jan 2019

Scottish Rugby is pleased to host the first in a series of Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS) workshops, in association with the Winning Scotland Foundation, starting in January with former internationalist Tony Stanger.

The courses will be delivered through several workshops delving into the key themes of Positive Coaching Scotland. It is an opportunity for coaches, parents and players to explore mindset, confidence, mastery, values and life skills.

PCS offers a practical alternative to the ‘win at all costs’ mentality and suggests solutions to the challenges facing youth sport. It provides the tools and framework for a positive sporting experience that can also be character building.

On the announcement of the courses, Coach Development Officer, Gordon Lyon said, “In 2019, we’ll be celebrating the way the programme has helped our coaches redefine winning and losing and develop a positive culture that transcends the game. We look forward to sharing our stories of PCS.”

“Scottish Rugby would like to thank Winning Scotland Foundation for devising these engaging workshops that ensure coaches, parents and players in their development have a positive influence on driving the game forward.”

Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend also gave his support to the programme, “I’ve been a supporter of positive coaching ever since Winning Scotland Foundation brought it to Scottish Rugby a decade ago. I’ve used the tools and approaches in my own coaching at every level – from school children right up to the national team. I’m delighted that, through this partnership, every child playing rugby in Scotland will have the opportunity to develop skills for life through PCS.”

On the opening course Tony Stanger draws on years of experience as an elite athlete, talent systems expert and father of three sporty kids. He is passionate about helping parents to better understand their role in supporting their children to reach their sporting potential.

Parents are encouraged to attend and will be given a free copy of Tony Stanger’s book ‘Red Dot Parenting’, a guide on how to help their kids on their sporting journey.
