2022 FOSROC SUPER6 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 2

15 Aug 2022

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

In the second weekend of the 2022 FOSROC Super6, Boroughmuir Bears continued their winning start by defeating Southern Knight at The Greenyards (15-24), Watsonians maintained a 100% record in 2022 with a second half comeback at home to Ayrshire Bulls (34-23) and Heriot’s Rugby got their first win of the championship away to Stirling Wolves (17-38).

FRONT ROW
Harrison Courtney scored an important second half try to give Watsonians the lead for the first time, and was chosen as the FOSROC Player of the Match. He is joined at prop by Dan Gamble, who was a key part of a strong Heriot’s scrum and overall performance upfront.

Sandwiched in between them at hooker is Corey Tait, who scored the Bears’ first try on Friday night and was involved all over the park.

SECOND ROW
Two players who played opposite each other are picked in the second row. Kwagga Van Niekerk worked tirelessly for Watsonians, charging down a clearance kick in the build up to his side’s first try. In the opposing second row, Rory Jackson was disruptive in the counter ruck throughout and was a key defensive player for the Bulls.

BACK-ROW
Two number 8s put in outstanding shifts and were selected as FOSROC Players of the Match. With that in mind, Trystan Andrews is selected at blindside flanker after playing crucial parts in the Bears’ tries. He is joined on the flank by Iain Wilson, who created two tries from making line breaks and finding a pass for Heriot’s.

At number 8, Jack Mann scored two tries and carried hard in the basking sun at Bridgehaugh.

HALF-BACKS
At scrum half, Jordan Lenac created fast ball for the Bulls and often got them on the front foot.

Jack Bergin is selected at fly half, with a lovely floated pass creating a try in the second half and his kicking game keeping the Bears on the front foot. Bruce Houston is unlucky to miss out after a stellar performance for Heriot’s.

CENTRE

Marcus Holden carried hard and stood out in a losing Wolves side at inside centre.

Robert Beattie scored an outstanding try for the Bulls and looked a threat every time he had the ball, and keeps his place at outside centre from last week.

BACK-THREE
Billy Warra showed his strength in attack and defence, carrying hard and putting in big tackles, and gets a spot on the left wing. On the right, Rory Steele won several turnovers and scored a try for Heriot’s in an excellent performance.

At fullback, Harry Paterson got past the gain line with every carry and made all-important interventions defensively.
