The Scots, who struggled to get their share of possession and territory, conceded a converted try in the second minute of the game to give England 7-0 lead which they held all the way until half time. Just before the break, prop Alan Dymock was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes which gave England, and their powerful pack, an even bigger platform from which to mount their attack. In the opening exchanges of the second half, England crossed the whitewash four times, three of which from rolling mauls. However, the Scots excited the crowd when Murray Bringhurst scored the try of the night. Scotland swung the ball from left to right and, after quick recycled ball, Bringhurst launched himself over the line for the score. Scotland U20 head coach, Greig Oliver, said: The team defended really well and made an outstanding effort in defence. Even when England scored from three rolling mauls, the players never lost heart. Speaking after the game, Scotland U20 team manager, John Jeffrey, added: It was a gutsy performance from the boys tonight. They were bullied a bit up front but showed tremendous character to keep going.
