Hillhead/Jordanhill claimed to the BT Women’s Premier League title with a victory over Stirling County last night (Friday 16 January).

Having narrowly lost out to rivals Murrayfield Wanderers in the last three Premier League title fights, Hills were clinical in securing the silverware at Hughenden.

Nine first half tries saw them storm into a 57-0 lead at the break.

Anderson, Telling, McConnell, Sarah Smith and Evans all crossed the white wash and Hannah Smith and Moore got braces to leave County with an uphill battle on their hands.

A brief period of respite for Stirling County followed half time as they dotted down to reduce the deficit, but improved defence was not enough to stop Hills stretching the lead once more.

Hannah Smith and Moore would both cross again to record hat-ticks while Evans also added to her tally.

The win means that the women from Glasgow have won 10 of their 11 league matches and can relax heading into their remaining ties.

Speaking before the game, Hillhead/Jordanhill Head Coach, Thomas Davidson, noted how the resilience of his squad under pressure had put them into contention.

Davidson said: “We’ve had a great season so far, on and off the field.

“The results on the field have meant that training has been really focused throughout the year and we’ve consistently had very good numbers.

“Confidence has been extremely high and even after our loss, the way the players reacted is real testament to the players and their hard work ethic.”
