Charity Donation From Scotland Gift

The British High Commissioner in Fiji was a happy man on Saturday. Martin Fidler, who hails from Aberdeen, had watched Scotland defeat Fiji 37-25 in Lautoka and had also received a gift from the team – a signed Scotland jersey – which will be going to a special place in Afghanistan. Mr Fidler’s son, Robert, is a lieutenant in 19 Battery (The Highland Gunners) Royal Artillery, currently halfway through a tour of Afghanistan. “It would mean a lot to Robert to receive this shirt and I’m most grateful to the team,” he said. Mr Fidler wanted to thank the squad in a tangible way and asked the players to recommend a charity to which he could make a donation. Hearts and Balls – which helps the sport of rugby to help its own – was suggested by the players and now a£100 cheque is on its way to the charity – one of Scottish Rugby’s official charities.
