Colin Maclean
29 Jan 2020
Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death earlier this month of a fine servant of the game in Scotland, Colin Maclean. He was 74.
Maclean, player, PE teacher and administrator, served on the SRU General Committee from season 1989-90 to 1991-92 as an Edinburgh District representative, thus he was a member of the Committee when Scotland won the Grand Slam in 1990.
As a player, Colin, who was fielded at centre and wing, captained Boroughmuir to the last unofficial championship in 1973. He also represented Edinburgh District.
A graduate of Jordanhill College in Glasgow, Colin taught PE at Leith Academy, the College of Commerce in Edinburgh, Forrester and Craigroyston High Schools in the capital and Knox Academy in Haddington.
He went on to serve as President of Boroughmuir between 2000 and 2003 – securing both the National Cup and Premiership during his stint – and he also held the posts of captain and President at Corstorphine Rugby Club. Indeed, it was from Corstorphine that he was elected to the SRU.
Scottish Rugby extends its sincere condolences to Colin Maclean’s family and many friends.
