Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death of a former member of its medical team and stalwart referee Dr Brian Slawson. He was 89.
Brian Slawson refereed out of the Corstorphine club and was touch-judge when Scotland succumbed to a narrow 13-20 defeat at the hands of England at Twickenham in 1973.
During the 1980s – including the 1984 Grand Slam – and on towards the 1990 Grand Slam, Dr Slawson worked alongside Donald Macleod and Clark Sharp as part of Scottish Rugby’s medical team.
He was also a key figure in establishing a drug testing protocol for Scottish Rugby.
Dr Slawson, who spent much of his professional life at Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital, died on 11 April.
Scottish Rugby extends its sincere condolences to all Dr Slawson’s family and friends.
