Fans guide to Ireland fixtures

21 Jan 2020

Scotland travel to Dublin to play Ireland in the opening round of the Guinness Six Nations. Always one of the most popular trips on the calendar, we’ve pulled together some essential information to help you make the most of your trip.

The Fixtures

Friday 31 January, kick-off 7.45pm Ireland U20 v Scotland U20 Irish Independent Park, CORK
Saturday 1 February, kick-off 4.45pm Ireland v Scotland Aviva Stadium, DUBLIN
Sunday 2 February, kick-off 1pm Ireland Women v Scotland Women Energia Park, DONNYBROOK

The games

Gregor Townsend will be in determined mood to get the campaign off to a good start. Scotland last won in Ireland ten years ago when a late Dan Parks penalty clinched a 23-20 win at Croke Park. With Ireland also winning the last time the two sides met (in Yokohama in the Rugby World Cup pool stages) supporters can expect a huge Scottish effort to record a first-ever win at the Aviva Stadium.

The weekend kicks off in the south of Ireland on the Friday night with the U20s clash at Irish Independent Park in Cork, home of Munster Rugby. There are regular trains from Dublin to Cork (travelling time c.2hrs 45min).

Scotland Women take on their Irish counterparts in Dublin on the Sunday, at Energia Park (formerly known as Donnybrook) kick-off 1pm. Tickets for both these games can be found at ticketmaster.ie.

Aviva Stadium

If you are lucky enough to have a ticket for the sold-out
Guinness Six Nations game, you can plan your route to the stadium by visiting
the Aviva Stadium website which
has lots of information on how to get to the stadium whether you’re travelling
by foot, train, bus or via the Luas (tram/light rail system).

What to take to the stadium

Fans travelling to the stadium for the game should be aware of the stadium’s bag policy. Watch the video below on the guidelines on bags permitted into the Aviva Stadium.

Visit Dublin

Dublin is a fantastic city to visit and if you’re staying for longer than just the matchday, take a look at visitdublin.com which has loads of information on everything from historic walking tours to the best places to eat and drink. If you’re only going for the game you should read this rugby in Dublin article from the Visit Dublin team, where they suggest a few drinking and eating spots for supporters on route to the stadium.

Enjoy your trip!
