FOSROC SUPER6 SPRINT SERIES TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 2

25 Apr 2022

Following the weekends’ round of FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected by those who stood out for us over the weekend.

In the second round of FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series action Boroughmuir Bears lost out to city rivals Heriot’s on Friday evening (22-38), Southern Knights hosted Watsonians who returned to Edinburgh with a victory (20-29) and Ayrshire Bulls travelled to Bridgehuagh to face Stirling County who were victorious 33-24.

FRONT ROW
We’ve selected two experienced props in this week’s team of the week. Grant Sheills (Southern Knights) and Chris Keen (Heriot’s Rugby) have been around the game along time and it showed this week when they led from the front with Sheills’ showing is dynamic ball playing ability in open play too.

For the second week in a row Cal Davies (Watsonians) gets the nod at hooker. Commentators Dale Clancy and John Dalziel selected the Watsonians captain as their FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match. Dalziel said: “He’s shown all-round game consistency at the set-piece, been very tough over the ball made key jackals and been able to get over for a try too.”

SECOND ROW
Heriot’s captain Ruairidh Leishman earns a place in the boiler house for his sheer athletic play throughout Friday night’s game, he also made an important break down the stand side to allow Heriot’s to score late on in the game.

Stirling County’s Adam Sinclair also gets a place in the team as he was at the heartbeat of his teams performance on Saturday afternoon.

BACK-ROW
As ever in the back row there were several hard-working contenders. Although Boroughmuir Bears Gregor Brown put in a great performance at blindside flanker, it’s Heriot’s Jack Mann who gets the nod this week for his consistency of performance this weekend and last.

Boroughmuir Bears and Scotland U20 Captain Rhys Tait seemed to be involved in every bit of action on Friday evening which earns himself a place at openside flanker.

Although Southern Knights were on the wrong end of the score-line Number 8 Harry Borthwick was a threat every time he got his hands on the ball, carrying at pace and offered himself up in the wide channels.

HALF-BACKS
Watsonains Murray Scott was clinical and quick in his delivery to his stand-off on Saturday and even danced in for a try of his own.

Bruce Houtson of Heriot’s just missed out on selection last week but on Friday evening he controlled the game well and put in a lovely cross-field kick to put Jack Blain in for a try.

CENTRE
We’ve picked a physical centre pairing this week with Ryan Daly (Watsonians Rugby) and Billy Wara (Southern Knights) making the cut.

Both centres bagged tries of their own, worked hard defensively and carried well.

BACK-THREE
Lomond MacPherson (Watsonians) went looking for work at The Greenyards on Saturday and helped guide his team to victory, whist Ross McKnight (Stirling County) showed his pace to secure the opening try of the afternoon at Bridgehaugh.

Logan Trotter (Stirling County full-back) was selected as FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match by commentator Stuart McFarlane and he gets the nod from us too. McFarlane said: “A fine try, solid defensively, good with the boot and his all-round game was good.”
