GB 7s squads named for Rugby Europe competition in Hamburg

Great Britain 7s are back in action this weekend in Rugby Europe. Following their demotion into SVNS2, their journey back to the top level starts now on and across this weekend both the men’s and women’s teams will compete in Hamburg.

Led by Scotland Sevens contracted player Roan Frostwick, GB Men will take on Portugal, France and Ukraine before knockout games across Saturday and Sunday.

The women’s side will be captain by Katie Shillaker who play Denmark, Ireland and Belgium first up.

This weekend’s tournament will be followed by a visit to Split in Croatia later on in July where GB will be aiming to finish in the top 10 and set their sights on a tournament in Istanbul which will aid their qualification hopes for the Olympics.

Great Britain 7s Director of Rugby Ciaran Beattie said: “Both teams are out to play well and use this platform to aid our development as a group. We’ve picked some players who have played well this season but we want them to compete on the international stage.

“We were so disappointed with how things panned out in the Series but Sevens is a game where there is a lot of jeopardy and we fell on the wrong side of that. We’re now looking at ways on how we can improve and take things forward so we return to the top tier as soon as possible.

“This weekend we’re looking for some big results which is important off the back off the tough season we’ve had.”
