Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death of renowned rugby photographer Gordon Fraser, who passed away on Wednesday. He was 61.Gordon, from Haddington, was Scottish Rugby’s first staff photographer, covering every facet of the game from Scotland and Lions tours to New Zealand to club, schools and youth matches.He was a member of staff from 1998 until 2006 and brought the understanding of the game, which had been apparent as a promising youth player, to his work behind the lens.Popular with staff, players and coaches alike, Gordon became a regular fixture on rugby touchlines.Initially he worked as freelance press photographer throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians, his imagery appearing in titles such as the Scotsman, Edinburgh Evening News, Dalkeith Advertiser and East Lothian Courier.Perhaps his most celebrated image was that of Duncan Hodge’s match winning try (above) in the 2000 Calcutta Cup.He returned to the local media beat around his Haddington home in recent years.Scottish Rugby extends its sincere condolences to his wife Gwen, family and all friends.We were proud to have regarded Gordon as a colleague.
