Heriot’s Rugby Announce Kelly as Head Coach

26 Sep 2019

Heriot's Rugby announce Andrew Kelly as their Super6 Head Coach and are excited to be welcoming the former professional player to the Heriot’s family.

In a 10-year professional rugby career, Andrew played over 120 games for Edinburgh, including captaining the side in 2011, and playing in the Heineken Cup semi-final run in 2012. In addition to playing club rugby, Andrew also gained Scotland ‘A’ Caps where he won the Nations Cup and reached the final of the Churchill Cup in Canada.

In 2012 he moved to Hong Kong where he joined Valley RFC as a player and captain, with the side winning four Hong Kong Grand Championships in row from 2013-2016. After his successful playing career, he moved into management, becoming Head Coach for the club and immediately found success by winning his first two Grand Championships in 2017 and 2018. As well as excelling as a club coach he was also involved in the Hong Kong national side’s coaching team which reached the playoffs for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Speaking of his appointment Andrew said, “I am delighted to have been appointed Heriot’s Rugby Super6 Head Coach. Heriot’s have a rich history of success and producing quality players, and I am looking forward to helping create the next chapter in that history.

Heriot’s Rugby Club Director of Rugby, Neil Meikle said, “We are hugely excited to have Andrew join us at Goldenacre. His track record as a Head Coach is exceptional and his knowledge of the pro-game both within Scotland and overseas were both key qualities we were looking for in a head coach.”

Andrew is set to join Heriot’s from Valley RFC following the completion of their season in February 2020. Phil Smith will continue to work as interim Super6 Head Coach with Fin Gillies until Andrew arrives.
