Horne Announced as part of Stirling Super6 Coaching Team

21 Jun 2019

Stirling County are delighted to announce the basis of their coaching teams that will lead their senior section into the Super6 era.

Super6 Head Coach Ben Cairns has added Eddie Pollock and Peter Horne to his coaching staff while the Wolves, Stirling County’s 1st amateur XV, will be headed up by Chris Faill, who will be assisted by James Wade and Gary Holborn, as a player/coach. Finally, Doug Smith will continue to coach the Accies, the club’s 2nd amateur XV.

The appointments see continuity throughout with Eddie Pollock (1st XV), Chris Faill (Wolves), James Wade (1st XV), Gary Holborn (player) and Doug Smith (Accies) all involved at the club last season.

“It’s great to finally announce the coaching teams which will lead the club into the Super6 era. Connection between the Super6 side and the rest of the club has been a key driver for us and therefore it’s great to have continuity within the coaching setup” said Ben Cairns of the appointments.

Of the Super6 announcements Cairns added, “Whilst I am keen for the three of us to work together on all aspects of our game, Eddie will lead our set piece and Pete will take charge of our defence. Eddie is a County man and his experience in set piece is second to none. He’s someone I’ve worked with in the past through the National Age Grade programmes and provides really good connection for us with the rest of the club”

“I first approached Pete a few months back about the opportunity and he was really keen from the start. He’s obviously got a wealth of experience and knowledge on the playing front but what has really impressed me is the work he’s already put in to this coaching role. He’s clearly thought a lot about how we setup our defence and how he delivers this to the players. He’s not new to coaching having had stints at both Glasgow Hawks and GHK and is currently undertaking his UKCC Level 3 course. Clearly playing remains his priority, he’s still contracted with Glasgow for next season and he has a massive period coming up. We are all hoping he is on the plane to Japan and he has a great World Cup and we look forward to properly welcoming him into the club on his return.”

From a Club XV perspective, pre-season has already begun, and Wolves Head Coach Chris Faill has been delighted to get started.

On his appointment Chris Said “It’s a huge honour to be leading the Wolves in this exciting new chapter of the club’s history. I have been a member of the club for over 20 years and take this role on with great pride. I am also thankful to the club for supporting my development as a coach over the last 5 or so seasons. Our squad is shaping up well with a good blend of youth and experience and we are all looking forward to taking on the challenges of the coming season in National 1.”

Chris added “It is great to have James Wade on board again, he was a great addition to thecoaching team last year and brings a wealth of experience to our coaching group. James will lead on attack and I’m looking forward to developing a coaching partnership with him. We are also pleased to have Gary Holborn passing on his vast experience coaching our set piece. Finally, Doug led the Accies last season to a strong finish in Caley 2, he is a really enthusiastic guy who the boys all enjoy working with and he completes our coaching team”
