Scottish Rugby has announced today that Jock Millican has been appointed a non-executive director of the Scottish Rugby Board, replacing Tom Inglis, who has completed his term of office and now stands down. Millican, the Secretary for the Premier One Clubs and a recent President of Heriot’s, (2004-06) takes up his Board position for a three year period with immediate effect. A well known figure in rugby in Scotland, Millican was born and brought up in the Borders near Duns and has played rugby for Earlston, Edinburgh University, Leicester, Newcastle Northern and Heriot’s. He earned his three Scotland caps in 1973 whilst studying chemical engineering at Edinburgh University. Millican proposed the motion that brought about the Dunlop Committee in 2005. As part of that committee he played a central part in helping to change the governance of Scottish Rugby to its present much improved structure. He joins Brian Kennedy, Graeme Millar and Chairman Allan Munro as the fourth non-executive director on the Board. Commenting on his appointment Millican said, “I have been involved in rugby all my life as a player, coach and administrator. “The relationships I have built up over many years at all levels of the game, starting from my playing days at Berwickshire High School, will stand me in good stead to offer a strategic and wide-ranging contribution. I believe I know what is needed for the sport to progress here in Scotland and feel such knowledge, together with my business skills of many years as a Board Director with Scottish and Newcastle, will allow me to play a meaningful part on the Scottish Rugby Board.” Board Chairman Allan Munro added, “Jock will be a real asset to the Board, bringing great rugby knowledge and experience and an appreciation that modern-day national governing bodies have to be run as a sports business. “Two years ago, Jock played a major part in changing the governance of Scottish Rugby into what it is today, giving this Board decision-making powers to run the sport effectively and efficiently and I very much look forward to having Jock on the Board.” Upon taking up his position on the Board, Millican will be resigning as Secretary for the Premier One Clubs.
